The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, will join leaders from around the world in Doha, Qatar, for a high level summit prior to the International Conference on Development Financing organized by the UN from November 29-December 2, 2008.
The international conference on development finance monitoring is organized by the UN to shed light on the 2002 Monterrey Consensus, an important stage that marks the global agreement between the North and South on development principles. The conference is expected to make recommendations on measures aimed at reinvigorating development - trade, development aid, investment, debt relief, national resource mobilization or an efficient international financial architecture.
The deliberations of the conference take special importance within the context of the financial crisis. In order to make the continent’s voice heard and its concerns known during the financial crisis, the AfDB organized a ministerial conference on November 12, 2008, which resulted in a common African position on the crisis.
