The African Development Bank Group appoints Ismaila Dieng as Director of Communications and External Relations

18-Aug-2016 - The African Development Bank Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Ismaila Dieng as Director of Communications and External Relations, effective 1st September 2016. He will join the Senior Management Team of the Bank. Ismaila Dieng, a Senegalese national, joins the Bank from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he is currently working as Africa Team Leader in the Communications Department.

African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation Grows in Size and Ambition

18-Aug-2016 - Members of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE) have stressed the need for consolidation and expansion of the Network at the 2ndAnnual General Meeting (AGM) held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on August 15 and 16, 2016. Sixty-two participants from 16 countries took part in the meeting, with APNODE welcoming participants from Benin, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia and Sudan for the first time.

18-Aug-2016 - The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Vincent Nmehielle as the Secretary General of the African Development Bank Group with effect from 1st September 2016. He will join the Senior Management Team of the Bank. Professor Nmehielle, a South African national, joins the Bank from the African Union Commission where is currently the Legal Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs.

She will join the Senior Management Team of the Bank. Hélène N’Garnim-Ganga, a national of Chad, is currently the Resident Representative for the African Development Bank in Mali.  

AfDB’s incubation of innovations in renewable energy praised by participants, partners

17-Aug-2016 - A group of young innovators, Africa Bio-Energy Team, being incubated by the African Development Bank (AfDB), undertook a field visit to Biogas Technologies Africa Ltd. in Accra, Ghana, from August 10 to 13, 2016. They were accompanied by members of the Bank’s African Development Institute (EADI). The visit sought to empower the team about biogas production, as well as learn about the company’s operations. It also provided an opportunity to discuss a possible partnership with Biogas Technologies Africa Ltd.

Mission visits dam rehabilitation project expected to provide water to 17,000 people in Mozambique

African Economic Outlook 2016 launched in Nigeria

The theme of the 2016 AEO is Sustainable Cities and Structural Transformation. ADEA 2017 Triennale: Regional consultation for North Africa underscores importance of Science, Mathematics, and ICT in Africa

03-Aug-2016 - In the lead-up to the 2017 Triennale of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), the Kingdom of Morocco hosted the third regional consultation for the North Africa region on July 13-14 in Rabat. The consultation meeting was part of the framework of preparations for the 2017 Triennale, after regional consultations for Central and West Africa were held respectively on May 30-31 in Gabon and on June 13-14 in Dakar, Senegal.

AfDB stands by South Sudan and approves €6-million grant for Resilient Water Project for Improved Livelihoods in Juba

02-Aug-2016 - The livelihoods of some 230,000 people in Juba, South Sudan, will be improved thanks to a key water project approved on July 14, 2016 by the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) in the form of a grant of €6.3 million. The project will also strengthen efficient utility operations, private sector participation and women’s empowerment.

SEFA grants US $1 million to promote green mini-grids in Niger

02-Aug-2016 - In July 2016, the Republic of Niger was awarded a US $994,270 grant from the African Development Bank-hosted Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) to promote green mini-grids (GMGs) and pave the way for private investments in this sub-sector.

African Water Facility: Boosting hydropower and irrigation in Tanzania

02-Aug-2016 - Tanzania is expected to benefit from a boost in hydropower generation and irrigation development thanks to a new study financed by the African Water Facility (AWF). This €2-million grant will help the government of Tanzania launch the pre-feasibility study of a multipurpose dam, irrigation and hydropower project in Kikonge (southwest).
