The African Development Bank (AfDB) signs loan agreement for the first pan-African Satellite.

18-Dec-2007 - On January 17th, alongside its partners, the African Development Bank signed the Loan agreement for the RascomStar-QSF project alongside its development partners. The loan is the final piece of the financing arrangements that will see the launch of the first pan-African communications satellite on 20th December. The total investment in the project is US$380 million of which the Bank provided a loan of US$50 million.

Union of Comoros: the AfDB Group wipes out US$ 24 m In arrears

18-Dec-2007 - Tunis, 18 December 2007 – The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank and African Development Fund approved in Tunis on Tuesday an arrears clearance amounting to 15.21 million Units of Account* (approximately US$ 24 million or 8.1 billion Comorian Francs) in favor of the Union of Comoros. This clearance accounts for 69 % of the Comoros arrears to the African Development Bank Group.

Tanzania: US$ 47 million to improve electricity supply

14-Dec-2007 - Tunis, 14 December 2007 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund approved on Friday 14 December 2007 in Tunis a loan and a grant amounting to 30 million Units of Account (47.2 million US dollars or 54.3 billion Tanzanian Shilling) to improve electricity suply in Tanzania.

Record Level of Support for the African Development Fund (ADF)

13-Dec-2007 - London, 11 December 2007 – Representatives from donor countries agreed today to a record level of support for the African Development Fund (ADF), the soft window of the African Development Bank.  Over the next three years (2008-2010), the total resources available to the ADF will reach US$ 8.9 billion, an increase of 52% over the 2005-2007 period.

UK Urges International Community to Increase Aid to Africa

11-Dec-2007 - UK Minister for International Development, Shriti Vadera, on December 10, 2007, addressed the ADF-11 replenishment meeting in London. Following on from the UK decision to double its contribution to the ADF, Ms Vadera used the occasion to ask the donor community to similarly increase their commitments to development in Africa and to the AfDB in particular.

Côte d’Ivoire: US$31 Million Grant for Post-crisis Multi-sector Institutional Support

28-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 28 November 2007 – The African Development Fund (ADF) will support efforts by the Ghanaian government to resolve the problem of unreliable energy supply which is negatively impacting  the economy, with a 27.60 million Units of Account (UA*), about US$ 43.38 million loan, approved by the ADF’s Board on Wednesday in Tunis.

Angola: US$ 18 Million Dollars for Sumbe Water and Sanitation project

28-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 28 November 2007 – A loan of 12 million Units of Accounts (UA*), about US$ 18.86  million was approved on Wednesday in Tunis  by the Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) to finance the Sumbe Water Supply, Sanitation and Institutional Support Project in Angola. 

Madagascar: US$ 15 Million for Manombo Irrigation Area Rehabilitation Project

23-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 21 November 2007 -  The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) on Wednesday in Tunis approved A loan and a grant with a combined value of  9.5 million Units of Account (UA*) , about US $14.933 million, to finance the Manombo Irrigation Area Rehabilitation Project (PRPIM). The UA 9.202 million loan and UA 298,000 grant will cover the projects’ entire foreign exchange expenses and 60.7% of expenditure in local currency.

Gambia: AfDB Supports Better Economic Management and Financial Governance

23-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 21 November 2007 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) on Wednesday in Tunis, approved a grant of 1.4 million Units of Accounts (UA*), about US$ 2.2 million, to the Gambia to finance the country’s Institutional Support Project for Economic and Financial Governance. The grant will cater for all foreign exchange and part of the local cost requirements for strengthening macroeconomic management.

African Development Fund Approves US$ 264 Million Loans and Grants for Kenya, Madagascar and The Gambia

21-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 21 November 2007 – Kenya, Madagascar and the Gambia are the beneficiaries of loans and grants with a combined value of 167.8 million Units of Account (UA*), about US$263.76 million, approved in Tunis on Wednesday by the Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) the concessional lending arm of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group. Kenya will receive 156.9 million UA in loans and grants to finance the Nairobi-Thika highway improvement project as well for support services to the boards of its water services.

14-Nov-2007 - Tunis, 14 November 2007 – In line with its increasing focus on infrastructure development, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will support Egypt’s Abu Qir 1300 MW Steam Power Project following the approval of a loan of 214.49 million Units of Account (UA*), about US$325 million by the Bank’s Board of Directors on Wednesday in Tunis.

The AfDB Group hosts New Korean Technical Cooperation Fund for the Implementation of Africa-Korea Economic Cooperation Action Plan

29-Oct-2007 - Tunis, 29 October 2007 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a US$ 5 million new Korean Trust Fund to support the implementation of the Africa-Korea Economic Cooperation Action Plan (KOAFEC) over a five-year period. The fund was approved on 15 October 2007, within the framework of the bilateral cooperation agreement between the Republic of Korea and the AfDB Group.

AfDB, Uganda Sign Bujagali Power Interconnection Project Loan Agreement

29-Oct-2007 - Tunis, 29 October 2007 -  Efforts to accelerate the implementation of the Bujagali Power Interconnection Project (BIP) in Uganda received a boost last week with the signing of a 19.21-million Units of Account (UA*), about US$ 29.7 million agreement by officials of the African Development Bank Group and the Government of Uganda.
