15/12/2016 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a financing package of USD 159 million to partly finance Ethiopian Airlines’ expansion plan and fleet modernization program. The package comprises two tranches, with the first tranche (85% of the financing) being covered by African Trade Insurance, Africa’s export credit agency, which will be providing credit risk insurance to the transaction. The investment is a reflection of the Bank’s new strategic thrust to achieve its five operational priorities and is rooted on the necessity to integrate Africa and improve air connectivity in the continent.
15/07/2016 - The African Development Bank has approved a USD 104 million loan to the Government of Ethiopia for a project which will sustainably extend power to industries, small businesses to enhance job creation and improve access to basic services in the country’s Tigray and Afar regions.
16/12/2014 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) approved a US $842,000 grant to dVentus Technologies – a technology-based and knowledge-driven company focused on the development of innovative and energy efficiency products for the energy sector
26/11/2014 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a US $133-million program that will help countries in the Horn of Africa region break free from cycles of drought and famine.
08/04/2014 - Following the signing of the Capacity Building Project between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank during the meetings of the African Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2014, the AfDB formally launched the project in Centurion, South Africa, on April 7, 2014.

18/10/2013 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Friday, October 18 a US $12.5-million equity investment in the Kibo Fund II. This contribution will allow the Fund to provide access to finance and capacity building to an underserved market of outward-looking small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-market African firms, particularly in low-income and fragile states within various sectors in Africa, thereby boosting income generation and job creation.
17/09/2013 - The signing ceremony for the Declaration of Intent for the Joint Initiative on Youth Employment in Africa (JYEIA) took place on September 12, 2013 at the Headquarters of the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa. The Initiative is a response by the AUC, African Development Bank, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the International Labour Organization to the call by African Heads of State and Government, at their Summit in Malabo, Republic of Equatorial Guinea, held in July 2011, to tackle more decisively the youth employment challenge in Africa
28/08/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Djibouti on Monday, August 26, signed the funding agreements, totalling US $7.5 million, for a geothermal exploration project in the region of Lake Assal.
19/12/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Group has approved US $125 million in funding for the first phase of a drought resilience project and provision of long-lasting means of subsistence to populations in the Horn of Africa.
