Mozambique: African Development Bank offers $50 million for post-cyclone relief

05-Jun-2019 - An international pledging conference to finance the reconstruction of parts of cyclone-hit Mozambique took place in the city of Beira on 31 May and 1 June. Multi-lateral development agencies, international organizations, government representatives, the private sector and civil society gathered at the conference, aimed at soliciting financial support for the effort.

31-May-2019 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank, meeting in Abidjan on 29 May 2019, approved a €100 million partial credit guarantee (PCG) to the structured finance company, African Agriculture Impact Investments Ltd (Mauritius), to develop commercial agriculture in Africa.

Japan and Austria to support private sector climate change investments on the continent

28-May-2019 - The governments of Japan and Austria have approved a $1 million fund to strengthen the participation of the private sector in combating climate change. The funding will be channeled to the Africa Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) grant, which aims to expand the role of the private sector in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of African countries. NDCs are national efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions and form part of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

A travers l’appui au secteur financier dans son rôle de financement de l’économie, en faveur notamment des populations et acteurs économiques vulnérables, cette opération a pour but de favoriser les conditions nécessaires pour une croissance économique forte, résiliente et inclusive.

Global partners announce $61.8 million allocation to boost African Development Bank initiative for women entrepreneurs

13-May-2019 - The Governing Committee of the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) has approved a funding allocation of $61.8 million for the African Development Bank’s Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) program. We-Fi is a partnership among 14 donor governments, eight multilateral development banks, and other public and private sector stakeholders, established in October 2017 and hosted by the World Bank Group.

Zambia: African Development Fund approves $11.1 million for public finance reforms

30-Apr-2019 - The African Development Fund on Tuesday approved $11.1 million to support Zambia’s public finance and economic management as part of efforts to restore fiscal stability and improve livelihoods in the middle-income Southern African nation. The copper producing country is pursuing reforms to stabilize its economy, particularly, to rein in a widening public debt partly due to commodity price shocks, drought and depreciation of its local currency.

Nigeria: African Development Bank approves US$70 million loan for Ebonyi State road

26-Apr-2019 - The African Development Bank Group, on Wednesday 24 April 2019 approved a US$70 million loan for a road project in Nigeria’s southeastern Ebonyi State. The Bank will provide US$40 million, while its co-financier, the Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF), will contribute US$30 million. The Islamic Development Bank is also providing Nigeria a loan of US$80 million, while the Ebonyi State Government will provide US$17.60 million, for a total project cost of US$167.60 million.

26-Apr-2019 - Le Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement et le gouvernement de Guinée, ont signé, mardi 23 avril 2019 à Conakry, des accords de prêts et de don, pour un montant total de 81,1 millions de dollars EU. Il s’agit de deux nouvelles opérations dans les domaines des transports et de l’environnement, ainsi qu’une aide d’urgence dans le domaine de l’agriculture, qui vont renforcer le portefeuille actif de projets financés par la Banque en Guinée, pour le porter à un montant total d’engagements d’environ 562,36 millions de dollars EU.

African Development Bank signs $50 million agreement with Natixis to boost trade finance in Africa

25-Apr-2019 - The African Development Bank on Wednesday April 24, 2019 signed a US$50 million risk participation agreement (APR) with investment and corporate bank Natixis. The 50/50 risk-sharing agreement covers a portfolio of commercial transactions totaling US$100 million, which will support commercial operations worth US$600 million in Africa over the next three years.

Botswana: African Development extends US$80m line of credit to help industrialization and regional integration

25-Apr-2019 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a USD 80 million line of credit to the Botswana Development Corporation Ltd (“BDC”) to help the country’s industrialization and regional integration. The line of credit will be provided via the African Development Bank’s private sector window and will be used to finance local companies in the Botswana's manufacturing, transport, logistics and services sectors.
