One of the highlights of this week’s All-Africa Energy Week conference in Maputo was the presentation of best practices in Mozambique, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and Uganda.
Mozambique was commended for adapting existing models, to local conditions, said Laura Nhancale, from the Mozambican Ministry of Energy.
According to Ms Nhancale, for any policy or project to succeed, it is imperative to take into account social, economic and cultural factors. Moreover, energy policies should include clear guidelines for the development of renewable energy.
Mozambique’s experience further demonstrated the necessity to harmonize technical electricity standards with neighboring countries to facilitate sales and other forms of energy exchange.
