AfDB hosts high-level workshop to operationalise Bank’s knowledge product on road safety

09-Nov-2016 - The African Development Bank hosted a two-day high-level regional road safety workshop in Abidjan recently to bring together top managements of road authorities and development partners to share and operationalize three road safety manuals recently prepared by the Bank. During his opening speech, Amadou Oumarou, Director of the Bank’s Transport and ICT Department, said addressing road safety is crucial in Africa, which experiences the highest rates of road fatalities in the world, impacting negatively people’s life and economic development.

Private sector’s contribution to Africa’s growth notable, but more should be done

09-Nov-2016 - The 5th 2016 Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Conference ended with strong calls for enhanced private sector involvement to achieve sustainable development in Africa. At the KOAFEC Public-Private Partnership Forum, the African Development Bank emphasised that private sector contribution was necessary especially in the face of Sustainable Development Goals, which require massive investments for their achievement by 2030.

AfDB approves US $391 million for Kenya’s water and sanitation project

09-Nov-2016 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 approved US $391 million to help finance a major water and sanitation program in Kenya. The Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program is designed to improve access, quality, availability and sustainability of water supply in 19 towns and wastewater management services in 17 towns across the country.

COP22, African COP

07-Nov-2016 - November 7, 2016 sees the opening of COP22, the 22nd edition of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in other words, the United Nations World Climate Conference. The successor to COP21, which resulted in the historic Paris Agreement in December 2015, COP22 is intended to be the COP of action, the COP that translates international commitments into action through implementation of that Agreement.

President Adesina shares the development agenda for Africa in Busan

07-Nov-2016 - The 5th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) forum saw President Akinwumi Adesina of the African Development Bank (AfDB) call on Sung Je Cho, President of Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), in Busan, South Korea’s second largest city. At the October 27, 2016 meeting, the two discussed the need to increase trade between Africa and Korea. They deliberated on common areas of collaboration, with President Adesina pointing out energy/power as a major challenge for Africa.
