The Mozambique Regional Office (MZRO) and the Government of Mozambique met recently to review the performance of the Bank’s Portfolio in the country. The meeting was chaired by AfDB Governor for Mozambique and the country’s Minister of Planning and Development, Mr. Aiuba Cuereneia. The Country Director, Frank Black, and the Economist, Mr. Duarte da Silva made presentations on the Bank Portfolio in Mozambique. They also used the occasion to clarify the likely impact the Bank Group’s new structure and the country strategy paper (CSP) recently approved by the Board of Directors will have on the Bank’s operations in Mozambique.
It should be recalled that the 3-year strategy, recently presented by Messrs. Frank Black and Duarte da Silva proposes to focus Bank interventions in Mozambique on governance and infrastructure, while aligning the Bank’s development operations with the ongoing harmonization and results-based agenda.
At the core of the Bank’s country assistance programming process, the CSP defines the scope of such assistance and represents the institution’s business plan for supporting the country’s national development agenda, which primarily aims at stimulating economic growth and reducing poverty.
