The first ADB-CABRI Report on Budget Practices and Procedures in Africa was officially launched by the AfDB director of governance, Gabriel Negatu, and the Executive Secretary of the Collaborative African Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI), Neil Cole, at the CABRI Annual Meeting in Dakar, Senegal, from April 7-9, 2009.
14-Apr-2009 - Improving revenue administrations during times of economic downturn was one of the key challenges discussed at an international seminar on cooperation on tax policy and revenue administration in Fes, Morocco, from March 30-April 1, 2009. The seminar was organized by Morocco’s General Tax Administration and the OECD Center for Tax Policy. It brought together over 60 tax officials and representatives of international organizations from around the world, including the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.
10-Apr-2009 - One of the first consequences of the global financial crisis has been the apparent drying up of liquidity in international markets which has, in turn, impacted adversely on the ability of banks to offer, inter alia, trade finance in emerging markets due to reduced appetite for risk and tighter liquidity management. Africa is not immune to such trends and as the crisis continues to spread, the ability to meet historical demand for trade finance is becoming increasingly challenging.

Presenting the one-day forum to participants, the AfDB Chief Economist, Louis Kasekende, urged participants to assess the impact of the financial crisis on African countries and to find possible solutions.

01-Apr-2009 - The AfDB President is in London as part of a NEPAD high-level delegation invited to the G20 Summit.
Key recommendations have been made to the G20 in a report by the Committee of African Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, established in March 2009 to monitor the crisis.
The report states that previous, repeated, commitments to increase aid to Africa must be delivered quickly: speed of access is vital.

Gantsho, aims to articulate what it will take to address the pressing water and sanitation issues throughout Africa and calls for an increased commitment by all sectors to take immediate action. Mr. Gantsho’s paper is therefore a call for action.
19-Mar-2009 - On 12 November 2008, the Heads of the African Development Bank, the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa convened a meeting of African Ministers of Finance and Governors of Central Banks in Tunis, Tunisia, to discuss Africa in the face of the global financial and economic crisis. The meeting created a Committee of Ten to take stock of the impact of the crisis on Africa and provide appropriate advice to African Heads of State.
