30-Jul-2012 - Inflation edged up to an annual rate of 12.1 percent in the countries of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in June compared to the annual rate of 11.6 percent in June, according to new figures. In the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the annual rate eased to 7.5 percent in June compared with 7.8 percent in May.

24-Jul-2012 - The African Development Bank Group has made project approvals of approximately USD 3.45 billion, or Units of Account (UA) 2.27 billion, during the year 2012 so far.
In total, 52 projects were approved up to 18 July 2012.
The African Development Bank part of the Group made approvals totalling some UA 1.055 billion, or about USD 1.6 billion. while the African Development Fund (ADF), the Group’s concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm was the source of finance for UA 943.6 million or USD 1.43 billion worth of project approvals.

23-Jul-2012 - The African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Ombudsman, Amabel Orraca Ndiaye, visited the AfDB’s Ghana Field office (GHFO) from 11 to 13 July, 2012 as part of an annual outreach and sensitization program of the Office of the Ombudsman. The objectives of the visit were to sensitize staff on resolving work place grievances using the resources available within the AfDB, and to make staff aware of their role in creating a more respectful and productive work environment.

The study demonstrates that Egypt would be faster to recover than Tunisia, largely due to the fact that its banking sector is adequately prepared to meet the capital adequacy requirements demanded by Basel III.
17-Jul-2012 - Growth in the last 10 years preceding the Arab Spring did not made it possible for North African countries to create enough jobs for the young. The regional unemployment rate among the 15 to 24 year-old age group is on average 23%, which is three to four times higher than that of adults. But the rate is 41% if the discouraged are included: that is, those young inactive people in a position to work but not looking for employment and so are not included in the official statistics.
17-Jul-2012 - Southern Region B Director, Chiji Ojukwu, was on a dialogue mission to Zambia from 9 to 14 July 2012 where, along with the Vice President and Chief Economist, Mthuli Ncube, he was on the panel of the High Level Policy Seminar Dialogue on Youth Employment in Africa held in Lusaka on 9 July.
Mr Ojukwu and Mr Ncube also held meetings with AfDB Governor and minister for finance and national planning, A. B. Chikwanda and the minister for commerce, trade and industry, Mr Robert Sichinga.
