06-Jun-2011 - To grow and improve its productivity, the African financial system needs more competition, say experts at the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank.
In a book titled Financing Africa: Through the Crisis and Beyond, published by Making Finance Work for Africa, an organization hosted by the AfDB, experts argue that increased competition would promote financial innovation and the adoption of new products and new technologies; this would ensure better service to customers and an expansion of these services to new clienteles.

The decision was based on the recognition that civil societies throughout the region have extensive experiences in their various relevant fields and can make valuable contributions to the Bank’s strategic objectives. The territory’s finance and economic planning minister, David Deng Athorbei, urged the institution to expedite action on the membership process, building on the positive and ongoing role the Bank Group is playing in South Sudan.
20-May-2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group holds it 2011 Annual Meetings in Lisbon, Portugal from 9-10 June 2011, with the participation of finance ministers, central bank governors and CEOs from the institution’s 77 member countries.
The meetings, on the theme “Towards an Agenda for Inclusive Growth in Africa,” will review the Bank’s 2010 operations and its 2012 development funding portfolio, as well as challenges facing the African region in key areas such as climate change, infrastructure, private sector and governance.

19-May-2011 - The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), on 18 May 2011, approved the Mid-Term Review of the Bank’s Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) for 2008-2012.
The Review’s aim is to evaluate progress against the objectives contained in the MTS, and to initiate consideration of a longer-term strategy beyond 2012.
