The AfDB Partnership Forum 2010 got underway on Wednesday 24 March 2010 in Tunis, with a strong emphasis on the need to improve dialogue and cooperation in support of Africa’s development.
Addressing the opening session, AfDB Regional Operations and Policy Vice President, Aloysius Ordu, briefed the partners representing 71 countries and institutions on the Banks activities.
25-Mar-2010 - A conference organized on March 24, 2010, in Tunis by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) on capacity building in Africa has underscored the importance of capacity development on the continent, especially in post-conflict countries. Speaking during the event, the AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka, underscored the importance of capacity development on the continent, stressing the timelines and urgency of dialogue on capacity development at the highest level of the continent's leadership.
25-Mar-2010 - Tunis, 24 March 2010 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group in Tunis approved a USD 8.7 million grant for Guinea Bissau, comprising USD 6.1 million from the Fragile States Facility and USD 2.6 million from the African Development Fund. The grant will help the country reduce its budget deficit and mitigate the shocks from the global economic crisis and its own difficult political situation. It will also help strengthen the budgetary reform begun in 2007, and will make budgetary operations more credible and transparent.
24-Mar-2010 - A two-day event which included a lecture for all African Development Bank staff on “Delivering Results in a Complex Environment” and a discussion session for senior management was concluded with success on 23 March 2010. The lecture is part of AfDB’s Learning and Knowledge Series and was delivered by Michael Barber, former head of the Delivery Unit from 2001 – 2005 under the administration of UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

22-Mar-2010 - Tunis / Nairobi 21st March - The first African Women Economic Summit in Nairobi was a real success. On the afternoon of the final day, the high level audience of 160 African and global decision-makers in the financial and political sectors, policy-makers, regulators, commercial banks, and prominent women entrepreneurs agreed on goals that will bring women centre stage in the financial sector. They pledged to drive change to include more women in finance.
19-Mar-2010 - The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.
The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water by adopting a resolution. This world day for water was to be observed starting in 1993, in conformity with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development contained in chapter 18 (Fresh Water Resources) of Agenda 21.

11-Mar-2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) participated actively at the 2nd Africa Carbon Forum (ACF) held in Nairobi, Kenya (3-5 March 2010).
The ACF is a regional platform established to promote knowledge and information sharing including business facilitation among the main carbon market players in the region. The Forum gathered together project developers, buyers, service providers, financial institutions, United Nations Agencies and Development Institutions, Designated National Authorities (DNAs) and other private and public sector stakeholders.
