AfDB Hosts Third Annual Africa’s International Media Summit

18-Mar-2008 - Tunis, 13 March 2008 – The African Communications Agency (ACA) is convening the Third Africa’s International Media Summit (AIMS) from 27-30 March 2008 in Tunis.  The event is a three-day critical discussion on issues relating to the proper and adequate dissemination of information about the ‘New and Emerging Africa’ and the re-branding of Africa.  The event will be hosted by the African Development Bank with the support of the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS), and the Diaspora African Forum (DAF).

AfDB and World Bank Meet in Cairo to Assess African MICs Needs

11-Mar-2008 - Along with the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group is organizing a two-day conference in Cairo, Egypt, on the theme: "Increasing the Competitiveness of African Middle Income Countries (MICs): How Can Multilateral Development Banks Best Support African MICs?" The event, which runs from March 11-12, is a follow-up conference to the one held two years ago in Tunis, Tunisia, aimed at promoting and better aligning services provided by the World Bank and the AfDB with the needs of African middle-income countries.

International Women’s Day: AfDB Puts Gender on the Front Burner

09-Mar-2008 - Tunis, 10 March 2008 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has made tremendous progress on gender issues over the last three years and enhanced the status of women within the institution, in particular, and Africa in general. The new "gender-compliant" culture began in 2006, with a Bank Group Presidential Directive on the protections of women against all forms of sexual harassment. The Directive also emphasized the need to protect all victims of sexual harassment and to respect their dignity.

MDBs Publish COMPAS: How is the Score Card?

05-Mar-2008 - Since the publication of the 2006 report, Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) participating in the Common Performance Assessment System (COMPAS) process have improved their efforts to better manage for results. All participating MDBs contributed to this improvement as each of them registered improved performance compared with their performance in the 2006, the report says. The overall performance of MDBs improved in four of the seven categories of indicators for public sector operations, but remained somewhat stable in three of them.

DRC : Bank Group Organizes Seminar on Participation and Civil Engagement

Bank Group President Ends Official Visit to Three African Countries

AfDB Sets New Benchmarks in US Dollar global and New Zealand Dollar Domestic Bond Markets

26-Feb-2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on February 15 issued a USD 500 million bond in the global bond market followed by a five-year New Zealand dollar (NZD) 200 million (US$ 160 million) transaction in the domestic bond market in New Zealand ("Kauri" bond) on  February 21.  While the US dollar transaction achieved the lowest ever pricing for the Bank in the public market, the Kauri transaction was the Bank’s inaugural deal in that market.
