This meeting is a follow up to one organized in Rome by the FIDA. The main goal of the Summit is to help bring connectivity to Africa and promote "Connect Africa", a new partnership that seeks to expand the ICT infrastructure of the continent, especially broadband Internet, to attract investment needed for employment and economic growth.

Germany, which championed the partnership under its G8 presidency, stressed that by strengthening African financial systems, the new effort would support economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction.

08-Oct-2007 - Kampala, 8 October 2007 – President Donald Kaberuka delivered a memorial lecture at the Bank of Uganda on "The African Economy: Fifty Years after Independence", in honour of Mr. Joseph Mubiru, the first Governor of the (Central) Bank of Uganda. He expressed optimism that after decades of reforms and adjustments, many African countries are now experiencing economic growth and poverty reduction. He noted nonetheless the renewed growth was largely driven by commodity prices and not as a result of changes in the structure of he economies.
08-Oct-2007 - Kampala, 8 October 2007 – The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, has emphasized the importance of hydro-energy for Africa’s sustainable development. Mr. Kaberuka made the statement when he led a delegation of senior AfDB staff on an inspection tour of the Bujagali hydropower project construction site near Jinja, 87 km north-east of Kampala during his 3-7 October visit to Uganda.

The project aims at providing clean and safe drinking water and sanitation to this small town of about 19,000 people and six other rural towns in Uganda. The President commended the programme as a model and success in the Bank’s water interventions. He noted the strong ownership and commitment of the beneficiaries and the remarkable implementation progress.
