14-Mar-2012 - Representatives of African civil society organisations (CSOs) ended two days of partnership talks with the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Tuesday in Nairobi, after intensive discussions on the institution’s Long Term Strategy (LTS) for 2013 to 2022, currently being formulated, to which they made considerable inputs.
14-Mar-2012 - The Regional Consultations on the African Development Bank’s Long Term Strategy (LTS) for the Eastern Africa region began on 14 March 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This was the first in the series of planned regional consultations seeking to solicit the views of ministers and senior officials of governments, the African Union Commission, the United Economic Commission for Africa and representatives of the private sector to guide the preparation of the Bank’s LTS for 2013-2022.
14-Mar-2012 - Talks initiated by the African Development Bank with civil society organisations (CSOs) on a new partnership framework in Nairobi ended on 13 March 2012 with both sides expressing the hope that the meetings marked the start of a mutually beneficial collaboration.
“CSOs appreciated this consultation. We hope it will be the beginning of an effective partnership characterized by meaningful engagement,” the CSOs said in closing group statement.

08-Mar-2012 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is in the process of formulating a Long Term Strategy (LTS) to guide its operation in Africa for the ten-year period between 2013 and 2022.
It is invited comments and suggestions from all stakeholders on this forthcoming LTS. These insights and recommendations will be a critical input to the final strategy.
08-Mar-2012 - Japan’s vice-minister of finance for international affairs, Mr Takehiko Nakao, visited the African Development Bank (AfDB) on 8 March 2012, and held talks with the AfDB president, Donald Kaberuka, on various issues related to development in Africa.
He noted the fact that the African economy was growing and affirmed Japan’s confidence in the continent’s future. Mr Nakao said: “Africa is currently growing again with better policies and it is high time for Japan to refocus on the continent.”

02-Mar-2012 - AfDB president Donald Kaberuka gave a pep talk this week to a group of more than sixty of the Bank’s Young Professionals, discussing their role in the institution’s overall business and the part they will play in its vision and strategy.
He urged them to have greater confidence and to be bold and innovative, saying “We all make mistakes, but the biggest one is doing nothing.”

02-Mar-2012 - A group of nine Executive Directors undertook a consultation mission to Uganda from 22 to 28 February 2012. The mission held meetings with the minister for finance, planning and economic development; sector ministers; the speaker of the National Assembly; chairpersons of five parliamentary committees, development partners and representatives of the private sector and civil society.

02-Mar-2012 - AfDB president Donald Kaberuka had talks this week in Tunis with the Vice President of the International Finance Corporation, Mr Jingdong Hua, on joint projects in Africa between the two institutions, focusing on mechanisms for financing such projects in local currencies.
Mr Hua commented on the success of the discussions, saying: “We have had beneficial talks with Mr Kaberuka.”
01-Mar-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB), the Tunisian government and the National Sanitation Authority, on 1 March, signed a loan agreement and guarantee agreement for €32.5 million (Tunisian dinars 64.45 million) to finance a waste water treatment infrastructure rehabilitation project across the country.
The project will improve the quality of treated water used to irrigate 8,500 hectares of farmland and open land.

29-Feb-2012 - The African Governance Outlook (AGO), a collaborative initiative between the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) aims to provide an effective African-based diagnostic tool on financial governance on a regional scale. ACBF has a mandate to develop capacity in Africa across a spectrum of areas including financial management and accountability through good governance.
