10-Dec-2010 - Cancun, Mexico, 10 December 2010 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) joined representatives from other multilateral development banks (MDB) on Monday, 6 December 2010, in a joint side event on “Scaling-up International Climate Finance” during the ongoing COP16 Climate Conference. It was an opportunity to share with stakeholders how MDBs are collaborating to expand access to international financing and bolster investments in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
10-Dec-2010 - African Ministers attending the Cancun COP 16 Conference called again for the early establishment of an Africa Green Fund (AGF). This echoed an earlier call by African leaders in Copenhagen in December 2009 for a funding mechanism that sets aside resources for Africa, provides enhanced direct access, and equitable and transparent allocation of resources to be managed by the African Development Bank.
10-Dec-2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) President, Donald Kaberuka, has reiterated the need for a comprehensive post-2012 Kyoto agreement on climate change acceptable to all, and underscored the importance of the Africa Green Fund being established by the AfDB, to mobilize resources in support efforts to mitigate the disastrous impact of volatile weather conditions across the continent.

The mandate of the Nairobi Framework partners is to assist developing countries, especially those in Sub-Sahara Africa, to improve their level of participation in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

During the High-Level Panel on “Aid Effectiveness Objective Korea 2011 – Is the EU committed to make change happen?”, Mr. Kaberuka, will share a vision of Africa’s development in which Africa is firmly in the driving seat, and aid in a supporting role.

Microfinance–defined broadly to cover both small loans to the poor, often but not exclusively based on group liability, as well as small loans to microenterprises, based on character or projected cash flow–has emerged as an important innovative form of financial intermediation over the last 30 years.
