Clearly, the issue of a stronger African voice in global policy debates is not new. But when Africa was hit very hard by a crisis it did not create, its stakes in international policy debates and decision-making increased markedly, particularly in issues of global economic governance.

Nouakchott sera mieux approvisionné en eau potable grâce à la convention que l’Etat mauritanien a signée avec la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), le jeudi 27 mai dernier, à Abidjan-Cocody en marge de la 45ème Assemblée annuelle de l’institution.
Le projet d’approvisionnement en eau a un coût d’une valeur de 52 millions USD.
Le ministre mauritanien des Finances, Ahmed Ould Moulaye, a indiqué que c’est la dernière tranche du programme d’adduction d’eau de Nouakchott qui pourra être exécutée grâce à ce contrat.
28-May-2010 - The Private Sector Department of the African Development Bank (AfDB) continually develops and finances projects in various areas of infrastructure (energy, transport and communications), as well as supporting operations in the financial and industrial sectors.
Private sector approved operations n 2009 came to UA 1.16 billion, or approximately FCFA 7.5 billion.
They included loans, projects and lines of credit, equity investment, and private guarantees. Private sector approvals represent 14.3% of total AfDB Group approvals for 2009.

En marge de ses 45ème Assemblées annuelles, la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a signé avec le Mali, ce vendredi 28 mai 2010, un accord de don portant sur 1 918 500 unités de compte (UC), soit l’équivalent de 1,918 millions d’Euros.

Abidjan le 28 mai 2010 - Le gouvernement de la République de l’Inde a octroyé vendredi 28 mai 2010 à Abidjan, dans le cadre des assemblées annuelles de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), un don d’une valeur de 6.7 millions USD pour lui permettre de mener des études sur des projets de développement sur le continent.

27-May-2010 - Cote d’Ivoire’s President, Laurent Gbagbo, officially opened the 2010 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on Thursday, 27 May 2010 in Abidjan, where he commended the institution’s growing interventions in its regional member countries in recent years.
President Gbagbo particularly expressed his full support to the Bank Group’s priority areas of interventions – infrastructure, regional integration, private sector, higher education and research as well efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change on the continent.

The Africa Progress Report 2010 presented ahead of the African Development Bank (AfDB)’s Annual Meetings on Wednesday 26 May 2010 in Abidjan, noted that progress was being recorded in Africa in spite of governance challenges.
It also urged African finance ministers to climate-proof their economies and development plans and invest in women, who account for about 50 percent of Africa’s population.

27-May-2010 - Meeting on May 27 2010 in Abidjan, Governors representing the African Development Bank (AfDB)'s shareholders endorsed a tripling of the Bank’s capital resources to nearly USD 100 billion.
This substantial increase allows the AfDB to sustain a higher level of lending, including to the private sector, in response to overwhelming demand in all countries.
27-May-2010 - Abidjan, 27 May 2010- The Board of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on Thursday, 27 May 2010 in Abidjan re-elected Donald Kaberuka to serve a second term as President of the institution. Mr. Kaberuka was first elected President of the bank in 2005.
In re-confirming President Kaberuka for a second term, Governors highlighted the need to continue with the progress the Bank has made in recent years to sharpen its mission of becoming the premier development finance institution on the African continent.

While statistics are subject to frequent revision, the outlook for 2010 and beyond is much improved. Economic growth prospects will hover around 4½ in 2010, and perhaps one percentage point higher in 2011.

26-May-2010 - Abidjan, 26 May 2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and la Banque de Développement des Etats de l’Afrique Centrale (BDEAC) signed today 26 May 2010 a grant agreement amounting to USD 1 million.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Mr. Bobby Pittman, Vice President, Infrastructure, Private Sector and Regional Integration at the AfDB, and Mr. Michael Adandé, President of the BDEAC with the presence of Mr. Tetsuya Utamura, outgoing Executive Director, representing the Japanese government at the AfDB and his successor Mr. Masahiro Kan.
26-May-2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has adopted an aggressive climate change policy not because the resources are available, but because clients need it, the AfDB vice president for infrastructure, Bobby Pittman, said on Wednesday during a press conference on climate change and clean energy.
Mr. Pittman, who spoke within the framework of the AfDB 2010 Annual Meetings taking place in Abidjan, said “we must be proactive in evaluating projects and their impact on climate change.”
