AfDB: Building More Effective Partnerships

AfDB Approves a USD 8.7 Emergency Grant to Guinea Bissau to Support Fiscal Reform

25-Mar-2010 - Tunis, 24 March 2010 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group in Tunis approved a USD 8.7 million grant for Guinea Bissau, comprising USD 6.1 million from the Fragile States Facility and USD 2.6 million from the African Development Fund.  The grant will help the country reduce its budget deficit and mitigate the shocks from the global economic crisis and its own difficult political situation. It will also help strengthen the budgetary reform begun in 2007, and will make budgetary operations more credible and transparent.

AfDB Approves USD 225 Million Loan for Egypt’s Refining Company

19-Mar-2010 - The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.  The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water by adopting a resolution. This world day for water was to be observed starting in 1993, in conformity with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development contained in chapter 18 (Fresh Water Resources) of Agenda 21.
