AfDB’s incubation of innovations in renewable energy praised by participants, partners

17-Aug-2016 - A group of young innovators, Africa Bio-Energy Team, being incubated by the African Development Bank (AfDB), undertook a field visit to Biogas Technologies Africa Ltd. in Accra, Ghana, from August 10 to 13, 2016. They were accompanied by members of the Bank’s African Development Institute (EADI). The visit sought to empower the team about biogas production, as well as learn about the company’s operations. It also provided an opportunity to discuss a possible partnership with Biogas Technologies Africa Ltd.

19-Jul-2016 - The issue of Africa’s industrialization was the focus of the 35th Session of the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee that met in Kigali, Rwanda, in the context of the African Union Summit. At the July 16, 2016 event, the leaders deliberated on the importance of intensifying industrialization and scaling up the continent’s electrification programs. They urged the New Partnership for Africa’s Development to work with regional trading blocs to achieve industrialization for sustainable development.

AfDB funds a platform to support women empowerment in 36 African countries

18-Jul-2016 - On 15th of July 2016, the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved USD 12.4 million grant for a project called "50 million Women Speak" to create a networking platform dedicated to sub-Saharan women entrepreneurs. AfDB Group announces USD 1-million emergency grant to mitigate severe malnutrition for Madagascar’s Great South Region

15-Jul-2016 - The African Development Bank has approved a USD 1 million emergency grant to fight the scourge of malnutrition in the Great South of Madagascar. The purpose of the grant is to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable groups by decreasing the severity of food insecurity as well as decreasing the overall acute malnutrition of children under the age of five years in the region. The Bank support will result in the increase of the number of households that have access to a nutritious diet through Food and Nutrition Assistance services.
