28-Sep-2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Wednesday, 28 September 2011 in Tunis an eight-and-a-half-year USD 45 million senior loan to the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), to finance its planned investment commitments and support private sector infrastructure projects and infrastructure-related companies in sub-Saharan Africa. This is the second AfDB loan to EAIF. In 2009, the Bank approved a USD 31.25 million senior loan and a USD 12.5 million standby loan facility.

28-Sep-2011 - African Development Bank (AfDB) staff is invited to attend a two-day workshop on the Bank’s new Climate Safeguards System (CSS) from 11 to 14 October 2011 in Tunis, Tunisia. CSS aims to support project teams in their efforts to mainstream climate risks into the Bank’s operations. The pilot stage of this climate screening process targets the most vulnerable sectors: agriculture, water, energy and transport. Task managers, as well as environment and climate change specialists working on these sectors, are especially encouraged to attend.

The MPEF III is a third-generation multi-sector private equity fund that will target investments in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Maghreb.

The team met on Tuesday, 8 August 2011 in Tunis, where members examined an updated draft Civil Society Engagement Framework. 30-Jul-2011 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Donald Kaberuka, has called for concrete action to mitigate the dire impacts of the drought and famine in the horn of Africa.
Addressing participants at a three-day triennial congress of the Society for International Development (SID), which opened on Friday, 29 July in Washington D.C., Mr. Kaberuka said that the tragedy, triggered by the worst drought in 60 years, has been exasperated by a collective failure to end the civil war in Somalia.

Its purpose is to help strengthen capacity building efforts in the financial sector that benefit poor and low-income populations in the continent, particularly women and those living in rural areas.
20-Jul-2011 - Geneva, Switzerland, 20 July 2011- The African Development Bank (AfDB) and global conservation group WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) have come together to work closely on green economy and development issues in Africa. Both organisations signed a cooperative agreement to this effect in Geneva on 20 July.
The heads of the two organisations agreed to highlight the growing links between environmental protection and sustainable development and the need to work on such issues as climate adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity, and ecosystems.
