Environ un milliard de personnes dans le monde ne possèdent pas de compte bancaire mais possèdent un téléphone portable. L’Afrique est le marché du cellulaire dont la croissance est la plus rapide au monde et la plupart des opérateurs sont des firmes locales. Dans des pays comme l’Afrique du Sud, par exemple, le nombre de téléphones portables est huit fois plus élevé que celui des téléphones fixes.

Zimbabwe and AfDB Sign US$30 million Agreement to Improve Water Supply and Sanitation

The President of the AfDB, Donald Kaberuka, said there was an additional USD 500 million “in the pipeline”, which he hoped would be in place by the end of the year.
