AfDB organizes an African high level forum on international financial crisis

20-Oct-2008 - African Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors will, on November 12, 2008, meet in Tunis, Tunisia, to discuss the global financial crisis and its potential impacts on African economies. Organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in close cooperation with the African Union Commission, the Conference aims to mobilize Africans with a view to seeking an answer to the global financial crisis.

Bank Group President Calls for Fair Trade

23-Sep-2008 - Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, has called for a change in international trade rules in order to make them fair to African countries. Speaking during a joint press conference in New York with Tanzanian President and AU Chairperson, Jakaya Kikwete, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting earlier in the week, Mr. Kaberuka outlined the benefits of fair trade to African economies. Africa accounts for less than 3% of global trade, whereas it accounts for a sizeable proportion of raw materials sold on international markets.

Transparency International Chief Enlists Support for Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative- (Says Bottom 3.5 billion Global Population Live in Resource-Rich Countries)

Bank Group Participates in Donor Round-table on Togo

17-Sep-2008 - A Bank Group delegation led by Operations Director, Janvier Litsé, will participate in a donor round-table on Togo scheduled to take place in Brussels from September 18-19, 2008. The Bank has, for three weeks, put an expert at the disposal of the Togolese government to enable it prepare the round-table which will also be attended by other development finance institutions such as the World Bank, the IMF the EU, the UNDP, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and ECOWAS.

AfDB and ICGLR sign Trust Instrument

16-Sep-2008 - The Bank Group and the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, signed a trust instrument for the administration and management of financial resources for the Special Fund for the Reconstruction and Development (SFRD) of the Great Lakes region on behalf of the eleven core member states. The SFRD was established in December 2006, within the framework of the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.
