19-Feb-2013 - Pascal Canfin, Deputy Minister in charge of Development in France, signed on February 11, 2013, an agreement concerning the membership of France to the African Legal Support Facility of the African Development Bank. This agreement brings the number to 50 signatories. Thus, France becomes the fifth non-regional member country to join the ALSF after the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium and Brazil .

The two men brainstormed on the global agenda of the World Economic Forum (WEF), with focus on energy and infrastructure investments in Africa. “The meeting also highlighted efforts to realize resources and energy plan and sector reforms in the continent,” Yumkella explained.
18-Feb-2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) jointly organized the workshop “Green Growth in Africa: Concepts, Tools and Strategies for Building Greener Economies and a Sustainable Future”. Hosted by the Zambian Ministry of Lands in Lusaka in January, the workshop attracted over 100 participants from 18 African countries, including representatives from bilateral and multilateral organizations.

15-Feb-2013 - The Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Eltigani Seisi Ateem, called on the African Development Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on February 14, 2013 in Tunis. According to Ateem, the African Development Bank Group will champion the upcoming high-profile Donor Pledging Conference for Darfur in Doha in early April. He expressed the need for the Bank’s technical assistance to DRA.

14-Feb-2013 - The African Development Bank paid homage to indigenous peoples in Africa by way of a forum organized on the 11 and 12 February themed « Forum on Indigenous Peoples’ Development in Africa ». For two days, experts discussed the development stakes concerning autochthonous populations. The essence of the discussions was to come forward with realistic solutions to questions concerning their birthright, the preservation of their environment and even more so their inclusion to the global development process in their respective regions.

Drawing lessons from diaspora bond issuances in Israel, Ethiopia and India, the paper, entitled “Diaspora Bonds: Some Lessons for African Countries”, argues that tapping migration wealth could be an effective means of funding development on the continent.

The project is designed to provide affordable and sustainable sanitation services to over 100,000 urban poor living in the Kawempe Municipality, in Kampala, Uganda.
04-Feb-2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB)’s new Disclosure and Access to Information (DAI) Policy, which is intended to enlarge public access to information, entered into effect on February 3, 2013.
The document replaces the previous Policy of 2005, and is based on the principle that the Bank Group, as a public and development institution, should be open and transparent in its operations.

29-Jan-2013 - On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, which took place last week in Davos, Switzerland, African Development Bank Group President Donald Kaberuka emphasized that building human capital is essential for the African continent to achieve inclusive growth and economic transformation.
World leaders gathered from January 23 to 27 at the WEF annual meeting to discuss this year’s theme of “resilient dynamism”, which President Kaberuka noted is particularly relevant in the African context.
