28-Feb-2012 - The African Development Institute and the International Monetary Fund held a workshop on public sector debt statistics for middle and senior officials from 13 to 24 February in Tunis.
The IMF’s statistics department conducts the workshop which covers the subject from both a conceptual and practical point of view. Basic concepts, accounting principles, and detailed classifications are handled in the context of the methodology that is harmonised with the government finance statistics and system of national accounts.
24-Feb-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) opened consultations with African civil society organisations (CSOs) over future partnership relations this week in Libreville, Gabon.
Representatives from the Central North and West Africa sub-regions were at the talks.
24-Feb-2012 - A high level seminar on aid allocation systems in Africa organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and hosted by the Mauritian government ended on 17 February with a consensus on the principles for guiding the adaptation of AfDB’s aid allocation system to the changing financial and economic landscape of the continent.
23-Feb-2012 - On 12 an 13 March 2012, representatives from Mozambique, Niger and Zambia will be in Livingstone, Zambia, to attend the fifth meeting of pilot countries and regions participating in the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR), a program of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF).
23-Feb-2012 - Between 5 and March 2012, teams from Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Liberia and Tanzania will be in Nairobi, Kenya, to attend the third meeting of pilot countries participating in the Scaling-up Renewable Energy Program (SREP), a Climate Investment Funds (CIF) program.
23-Feb-2012 - On 2-3 April 2012, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana will join other countries from around the world participating in the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF) Forest Investment Program (FIP) in Brasilia, Brazil, for their third annual FIP pilot country meeting. As an implementing agent of the CIF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will also attend.
22-Feb-2012 - At the 18th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 23-30 January 2012, African leaders endorsed the Africa Consensus Statement to Rio+ 20, marking yet another step toward the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+ 20) to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 20-22 June 2012. The statement outlines Africa’s key priorities and concerns to be reflected in the outcomes of Rio+ 20 and is the result of many months of collaboration among key stakeholders, including the African Development Bank (AfDB).
22-Feb-2012 - The African Carbon Support Program (ACSP) held a seminar on 12 January 2012 for staff of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on the outcomes of COP17 and how they relate to the Bank’s current and planned climate change initiatives, particularly those involving carbon finance.
22-Feb-2012 - Following the activity of the United Nations Framework for Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 17) held in Durban, South Africa from 28 November to 10 December 2011, the African Development Bank (AfDB) took a step back to reflect on its role in building capacity for African negotiators and providing technical, legal and communication support for Africa’s shared climate change agenda.
22-Feb-2012 - On 25 January 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) kicked off a series of launching seminars to raise awareness about the fund and seek stakeholder views. SEFA will use the feedback to inform any adjustments required in its “inception” year.
21-Feb-2012 - France’s minister for cooperation, Henri de Raincourt, its secretary of state for foreign trade, Pierre Lellouche, represented by Delphine d’Amarzit, multilateral affairs and development manager at the general directorate for Treasury, and the vice president for sector operations from the African Development Bank (AfDB), Kamal Elkheshen, met in Paris on 21 February 2012, where more than 200 people gathered for a conference on money transfers to Africa from migrants. One-third of the delegates came from North Africa and the African franc zone.
16-Feb-2012 - Tanzania’s finance minister and chairman of the Board of Governors, Mustafa H. Mkulo, visited AfDB this week and briefed an informal Board meeting on the state of readiness for the Annual Meetings in Arusha in May.
He later also had talks with AfDB president Donald Kaberuka on various issues, including the performance of the portfolio in Tanzania.

10-Feb-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved funding of USD 41 million to improve the employment prospects of graduates and students in Malawi through training and skills development.
The financing to support efforts of the Malawian government in improving the quality and relevance of skills for job creation and employability is a mix of loans and grants from the AfDB’s African Development Fund and its Nigerian Trust Fund, and includes a contribution from the government of USD 4.1 million.

31-Jan-2012 - North African Lawyers have commended the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) and the Pan African Lawyers Union’s (PALU) recent capacity-building seminar, noting that “it opens new horizons for us.” The lawyers participated in the seminar which took place from January 24 to 26, 2012 in Tunis.
26-Jan-2012 - Thursday 26 January was the second day of a two-day capacity building seminar organised by the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) and the Pan-African Lawyers Union (PALU) in Tunis. Its aim was to familiarise North African lawyers with the African Development Bank’s different organs and activities and offer them a better understanding of the institution’s legal requirements in financing infrastructure projects.
