17-Apr-2013 - The African Development Bank has approved two loans totalling USD 232.5 million for the 157.5-kilometre road project from Arusha to Holili in Tanzania, and Taveta to Voi in Kenya, in an effort to reduce the cost of transport and enhance access to agricultural inputs, larger markets and social services within the East Africa Community.
Kenya will receive USD 113.12 million of the two loans approved by the AfDB Board, while Tanzania will be awarded USD 120 million. The Bank facility constitutes 89.1 per cent of the total project cost.

13-Apr-2013 - Egypt’s fuel subsidy program, designed to ease the lives of the poorest of its population, is becoming a serious drain on its national economy, according to a new study from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The cost of its oil subsidies shot up by more than 65 percent to 68 billion Egyptian pounds (LE), or almost USD 12 billion, in the 2009-2010 financial year, compared to LE 40 billion in 2005-2006, according to the study.
11-Apr-2013 - The Fostering Innovative Sanitation and Hygiene (FISH) in Monrovia Project funded by the African Water Facility (AWF) was launched on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the presence of over 40 people including representatives of beneficiaries and development partners. The Facility offers a €1.2-million grant to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to support a project aimed at increasing access to sustainable and affordable sanitation and hygiene services to over 800,000 urban slum-dwellers in Monrovia, Liberia.
09-Apr-2013 - A two-day donor conference on Sudan ended on 8 April in Doha, Qatar with a pledge of USD 3.6billion. The amount, which will be paid over six years, will be devoted mainly to the development and reconstruction of the Darfur region.
08-Apr-2013 - After a decade of stagnation, the Ivoirian economy is picking up. The signs are obvious here and there, and especially in Abidjan, the economic capital. They are the construction of high roads and the setting up of improved health and sanitation services systems undertaken by the government both in Abidjan and in the hinterland, as well as property development engineered by the private sector.

05-Apr-2013 - As of the 31st of March 2013, the Global Environment Facility’s Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) has granted USD 18.6 million to be channeled by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to Sierra Leone, Uganda and Mauritania for project concepts to help climate-proof their water sectors. This work is regarded as a critical element of these countries’ moves toward climate-resilient poverty reduction and sustainable development.

01-Apr-2013 - The African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Board of Executive Directors on April 3, 2013 approved an African Development Fund (ADF) grant of USD $ 25.7 million and an ADF loan of USD 12.6 million for a Skills, Employability and Entrepreneurship Program (SEEP) in Rwanda.
The program will support the Government of Rwanda’s policy reform to promote human capital development, inclusive growth and poverty reduction.
01-Apr-2013 - At their meeting in Durban, the BRICS group put forward the proposal establishing a Development Bank under their auspices. This initiative was hailed by Donald Kaberuka, President of the AfDB.
A grand premiere in Africa, this decision was taken at the meeting held on the 26 and 27 March 2013. The continent welcomed the annual meeting of the BRICS group held in Durban made up of Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa joining these countries in April 2011.
