EADI Organizes Public Sector Debt Statistics Workshop

28-Feb-2012 - The African Development Institute and the International Monetary Fund held a workshop on public sector debt statistics for middle and senior officials from 13 to 24 February in Tunis. The IMF’s statistics department conducts the workshop which covers the subject from both a conceptual and practical point of view.  Basic concepts, accounting principles, and detailed classifications are handled in the context of the methodology that is harmonised with the government finance statistics and system of national accounts.

Burkina Faso, DRC and Ghana to Attend FIP Pilot Country Meeting

23-Feb-2012 - On 2-3 April 2012, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana will join other countries from around the world participating in the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF) Forest Investment Program (FIP) in Brasilia, Brazil, for their third annual FIP pilot country meeting. As an implementing agent of the CIF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will also attend.

AfDB Supports Unified Africa at Rio+ 20 in June 2012

22-Feb-2012 - At the 18th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 23-30 January 2012, African leaders endorsed the Africa Consensus Statement to Rio+ 20, marking yet another step toward the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+ 20) to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 20-22 June 2012. The statement outlines Africa’s key priorities and concerns to be reflected in the outcomes of Rio+ 20 and is the result of many months of collaboration among key stakeholders, including the African Development Bank (AfDB).

21-Feb-2012 - France’s minister for cooperation, Henri de Raincourt, its secretary of state for foreign trade, Pierre Lellouche, represented by Delphine d’Amarzit, multilateral affairs and development manager at the general directorate for Treasury, and the vice president for sector operations from the African Development Bank (AfDB), Kamal Elkheshen, met in Paris on 21 February 2012, where more than 200 people gathered for a conference on money transfers to Africa from migrants. One-third of the delegates came from North Africa and the African franc zone.

16-Feb-2012 - Tanzania’s finance minister and chairman of the Board of Governors, Mustafa H. Mkulo, visited AfDB this week and briefed an informal Board meeting on the state of readiness for the Annual Meetings in Arusha in May. He later also had talks with AfDB president Donald Kaberuka on various issues, including the performance of the portfolio in Tanzania.

AfDB Approves USD 41m Funding to Boost Graduate Employment in Malawi

10-Feb-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved funding of USD 41 million to improve the employment prospects of graduates and students in Malawi through training and skills development. The financing to support efforts of the Malawian government in improving the quality and relevance of skills for job creation and employability is a mix of loans and grants from the AfDB’s African Development Fund and its Nigerian Trust Fund, and includes a contribution from the government of USD 4.1 million.
