23-Nov-2011 - A project to develop a geothermal steam field at Menengai, Kenya got the go-ahead on 17 November 2011 from the governing body of the Scaling Up of Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP), a program coming under the Climate Investment Funds (CIF). It approved USD 25 million in grants and concessional loans which will be channeled through the African Development Bank (AfDB) along with the AfDB’s own co-financing of USD 80 million.

The proposed design of the mechanism was approved by the FIP Trust Fund Committee at the CIF Governing Bodies Meetings from 31 October to 4 November 2011 in Washington, D.C.

As an implementing agent of the CIF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has worked closely with Mali to develop the plan under the CIF’s Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP).
23-Nov-2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved on 23 November a USD 20 million line of credit over 10 years to Housing Finance Bank Limited (HFB) Uganda to support residential and commercial real estate development aimed at benefiting low and medium income earnings through decent housing, as well as small and medium enterprises through commercial property and office space.

21-Nov-2011 - On 12 November 2011, the African Development Bank’s (AfDB)’s Human Development Department organized a meeting with members of the Association of African Students and Trainees in Tunisia to listen to their views on the Joint AU/ILO/UNECA/AfDB’s Initiative on Youth Employment in Africa.
The joint initiative will be formally endorsed by African heads of state and governments at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, scheduled to take place in January 2012.

15-Nov-2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has made substantial progress under its Trust Fund Reform policy in moving away from tied bilateral funds to multi-donor Trust Funds most of which are thematic in nature.
As of the end of October 2011, the Bank managed 10 thematic funds for a total of about USD 185 million compared to USD 14.2 million available for use under the existing ten bilateral funds.

Both institutions have agreed to establish a structured partnership with one another in support of the peace-building recovery and development efforts of some of the AfDB's conflict and crises affected regional member countries.
