10-Sep-2008 - Tunis, September 9, 2008 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) will be hosting, from 9-12 September, 2008 at Sheraton Hotel in Tunis, a series of statistical meetings.
The meetings will bring together all UN Agencies, the World Bank, IMF, bilateral agencies and African regional and sub-regional organizations involved in the development of statistics in the region. The meetings will essentially focus on the coordination of statistical activities in Africa and at the global level.
The main meetings scheduled to take place are:
10-Sep-2008 - Tunis, 10 September 2008 -- Fitch Ratings has affirmed the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group’s ratings at Long-term Issuer Default (IDR) 'AAA' with a Stable Outlook and Short-term IDR 'F1+'.
The ratings are primarily based on the support from the Bank's member countries, its high level of capitalisation and conservative risk management policies, which largely offset its substantial credit risk exposure.
05-Sep-2008 - ACCRA, September 5, 2008 – At a landmark dialogue held in Ghana yesterday, over 40 African Ministers met with heads of donor agencies to discuss the crises caused by soaring food and fuel prices, and urged the international donor community to "untie aid and remove restrictions on food aid so that the adverse impacts of the crisis on people and national economies can be reduced."
05-Sep-2008 - The Bank Group, USAID and CRDB Bank on Thursday, September 4, 2008, launched a historical partnership in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, to finance private sector participation in agriculture, using a US$10 million partial credit guarantee facility that was recently approved by the AfDB board of directors for Cooperative and Rural Development Bank (CRDB).

04-Sep-2008 - Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on Thursday, September 4, 2008, in Accra, Ghana, met South African Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel on the sidelines of the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness taking place in the Ghanaian capital. They discussed issues of mutual interest to the Bank Group and South Africa. Mr. Kaberuka had earlier met with OECD Secretary-General, Angel Gurria, and Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carsson, on Wednesday.
04-Sep-2008 - Accra, Ghana – 4 September 2008 – Ghanaian President, John Kufuor, has called on developing and developed countries to deploy and manage development assistance to enable poor countries exit from aid dependency.
"We have an opportunity today to reach for a future based on a shared common commitment to overcome poverty, a future where no country will depend on aid," Mr. Kufuor said while opening the ministerial session of the Third High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF-3) on Thursday in Accra.
04-Sep-2008 - The five mutually reinforcing pillars of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness are virtual non-starters in conflict situations replete with chaos and human tragedy. Rather, unstable and failed states are carbon models for development ineffectiveness. The idea that failed communities can take ownership of their development, collaborate harmoniously with donors and manage their resources in a transparent and accountable manner would pose enormous challenges.

02-Sep-2008 - Within the framework of the Bank’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative (RWSSI), the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has provided UA 51 million to help Madagascar in its efforts to attain the short-term objective of sustainably providing safe drinking water and sanitation services to rural communities in eight regions of the country. The initiative seeks to to provide 1250 boreholes, including 1,000 equipped with pumps and 250 solar energy pumps.

The meeting is being held from August 25 to 28, 2008, in Hammamet, Tunisia.

20-Aug-2008 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Donald Kaberuka, officially launched the Zambia Country Office on 1 August 2008 in Lusaka. The function was attended by Zambia’s first President, Kenneth Kaunda, the Ministers of Finance and Planning, Ng’andu Magande, as well as AfDB’s former President and Chief Guest, Willa Mung’omba. Several ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Zambia and heads of multilateral agencies also attended the event.
