11-Aug-2008 - Tunis, August 11, 2008 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group will, from August 12, 2008, in Niamey, Niger, hold a series of seminars to present comparative outputs, incomes and price levels in African countries within the framework of the International Comparison Program for Africa survey conducted from 2004-2007 in 48 African countries.

24-Jul-2008 - In a presentation titled ‘The Road from Paris to Accra" to the AfDB Board's Committee for Development Effectiveness (CODE) on July 18, Policy Economist with the Operations Policies and Compliance Department, Negatu Makonnen, underscored that the scope of the application of the Paris Declaration (PD) Principles should be broadened beyond the Official Development Assistance (ODA) and the PD principles should govern all aid flows, including aid from new and emerging donors as well as all resources mobilized internally and externally.
23-Jul-2008 - Along with the World Bank, the Department for International Development (DFID) and the European Commission, the Bank Group on Wednesday, July 23 had a wrap-up meeting with the Sierra Leonean government on the 2008 Multi-Donor Budget Support (MDBS) Progress Assessment Framework (PAF) review undertaken from July 14-23, 2008. Present at the meeting were the country’s Minister of Finance, the Financial Secretary and the Heads of the four Multi-Donor Budget Support (MDBS) Partners and their technical teams.

07-Jul-2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the Nigeria-based International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on Monday, July 7, 2008, started a two-day retreat in Tunis to explore possibilities of addressing the current global food crisis that has hurt many people across the continent. The retreat comes on the heels of a workshop on revitalizing Africa’s agriculture which was recently held in the Tunisian capital.

27-Jun-2008 - An African Development Bank (AfDB) Group delegation, led by its vice president, Joseph Eichenberger, last week participated in the 2008 Liberia Poverty Reduction Forum hosted by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin. The objective of the meeting was to present the country’s recently published 2008-2011 Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) in order to solicit support from development partners.

25-Jun-2008 - Field office staff of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group in Uganda recently held a meeting with a World Bank mission to exchange ideas on the proposed agricultural sector-wide operation, which would follow the completion of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) and the Agricultural Research and Training Programmes supported by the World Bank and other development partners.
25-Jun-2008 - A regional workshop for implementers of twelve projects financed by the African Water Facility (AWF) for ten Bank Group regional member countries in Eastern and Southern Africa is taking place in Kampala from June 23-27, 2008. The workshop, which has brought together Southern and East African experts, was opened by Uganda’s Water and Environment Minister, Maria Mutagamba. Speaking during the meeting, the minister expressed her government’s gratitude to the Bank Group for its support of the continent’s socio-economic development.
25-Jun-2008 - Following recent international conferences in Washington D.C., Rome, Cape Town and Accra on rising food prices, the AfDB will, from June 26-27, host a meeting of the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) Taskforce, aimed at coordinating and harmonizing MDB action programmes on food crisis in a quick, comprehensive and holistic manner.
25-Jun-2008 - A two-day conference on revitalizing African agriculture opened on Wednesday in Tunis with policymakers and agriculture experts from the Bank’s regional member countries and representatives of other development agencies in attendance. Held on the theme: "Revitalizing African Agriculture: Its Implication for Addressing the Food Crisis", the conference is reviewing partner countries’ experiences in addressing the current food crisis.

The forum will be attended by high-level personalities from government, the private sector and the civil society to discuss issues of importance to Africa’s economic and social development.

20-Jun-2008 - Officials of the Bank Group’s field office in Senegal on Wednesday in Dakar received an FAO delegation comprising its Senegal Resident Representative, Amadou Ouattara, and Regional Coordinator, José Luis Fernandez, with whom they discussed food security, emergency operations and rehabilitation. The objective of the working session was for both parties to share information on the food crisis as well as short and long term measures taken to deal with the crisis.
