04/04/2019 - One hundred and sixty young women have begun a month-long coding class on two Nigerian campuses under a new programme to give African youth digital skills for the work force. The Coding for Employment programme, organised by the African Development Bank and Microsoft Philanthropies, prioritises young women who typically have been side-lined in the technology ecosystem.

01/04/2019 - A year after the signing of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) in Kigali by 49 African states, and following the ratification of the agreement by Ethiopia on the first anniversary on 21st March, only one more state is now required to reach the minimum requirement of 22 ratifying states. This will confirm its entry into force, contributing to the creation of one of the potentially biggest free trade areas in the world.

27/02/2019 - From Kenya to Tanzania, from Uganda to Ethiopia, the familiar sound of petrol and diesel generators is about to disappear from the daily lives of millions of Africans. These East Africa countries have faced regular major power cuts since the early 2000s. But this is about to change; inhabitants of these countries are on the verge of switching them off for good, with the upcoming commissioning of a power transmission line to interconnect Kenya and Ethiopia. This line is scheduled to enter its operational phase in the course of 2019, providing an uninterrupted supply of electricity for all.
