President Donald Kaberuka is 2013 ‘African of the Year’

16-Jan-2014 - In November 2013, Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank Group, was named the recipient of the 2013 Daily Trust African of the Year award. A statement by the chairman of the award committee and former Secretary General of the Organisation of African Unity, Salim Ahmed Salim, revealed that Kaberuka was chosen for the award in recognition of his innovative idea which led to the establishment of the Africa50 Fund to speed up the financing of infrastructure in Africa.

Facilité africaine de l’eau - Développement d’un système de transfert d’eau potable entre le Togo et le Ghana

09-Jan-2014 - Ce sont plus de 4 millions de personnes, résidant au Togo et au Ghana, entre Sogakopé et Lomé, qui bénéficieront d’un accès amélioré à l’eau potable, à l’issue d’un projet proposé par les gouvernements respectifs des deux pays. Et pour lequel ceux-ci ont reçu, le 20 décembre 2013, confirmation d’un don de 1,4 million d’euros de la Facilité africaine de l’eau (FAE).

African Water Facility Supports the Development of Irrigated Agriculture to Increase Food Security and Economic Growth in Malawi

08-Jan-2014 - The African Water Facility (AWF) has offered a €1.8 million grant to the Government of Malawi to help prepare a project designed to expand irrigated agriculture in the Lower Shire Valley. The project will help overcome the adverse effect of prolonged dry spells and frequent flooding to improve and spread agricultural production.

China welcomes AfDB’s leadership in ensuring the sustainability of projects in Africa

31-Dec-2013 - A delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB), led by Anthony Nyong, Division Manager, Compliance and Safeguard was in Beijing, China  from  17th to 19th December 2013 for a dialogue between China and Africa on Environmental and Social Sustainability. The dialogue provided a platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges in implementing environmental and social sustainability by Chinese firms operating in Africa to ensure that Chinese investments achieve desired developmental outcomes. 

AfDB Approves US$ 25 Million Pan-African Infrastructure Development Fund 2

25-Dec-2013 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on Tuesday 17 December an equity participation of up to USD 25 million in the Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund 2 (PAIDF 2). PAIDF2 is a Private Equity Fund that will invest in projects across the power, transport, water and sanitation, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and healthcare infrastructure sectors throughout the continent.

Burkina Faso admitted into forest carbon partnership facility

20-Dec-2013 - Burkina Faso, benefitting from the close support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank, has successfully become a member of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). This now qualifies Burkina Faso as a REDD+* country and, with the award of a US $3.8-million grant, allows the country to put in place the necessary policies and systems needed to effectively operationalize the REDD+ mechanism.
