31-Aug-2012 - The potential to grow intra-African trade is significant and, while it has more than doubled over the past five years, it remains a disappointing figure, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, told the annual Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The theme of this year’s conference, held at the Pan African Parliament in Johannesburg, South Africa, was on the role parliaments in promoting intra-African trade to achieve development and employment in Africa.
29-Aug-2012 - The African Development Bank Group, UNICEF and the Government of Madagascar signed a US $1-million grant agreement to fund rehabilitation of social infrastructure in the country following the devastating cyclones Giovanna and Irina, which hit the country in February. The signing took place on August 23 in Brickaville, about 250 km east of Antananarivo.

27-Aug-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB), in partnership with the World Bank, the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), prepared a policy toolkit on inclusive green growth for the G20 Leaders’ Summit, held in Los Cabos, Mexico, in June, at the request of the G20 Development Working Group (DWG). Green Growth is one of the three priorities under the Mexican Presidency.

22-Aug-2012 - The President of the African Development Bank Group, Donald Kaberuka, has expressed his sadness over the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
In his condolence message to the government of Ethiopia, President Kaberuka said: “Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was a visionary and transformational leader of his country and a voice for Africa in many international fora. He had great ambitions for his country and leaves behind an unrivaled record of social and economic accomplishments.”
22-Aug-2012 - The African Development Institute (ADI) organized a second session of the African Officials Invitation Training Program on SME Policy in Seoul, South Korea recently. Fifteen Kenyan officials from the Ministry of Industrialization, Industrial Training Institute, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Trade, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya Industrial Estate Limited and the University of Nairobi attended the workshop. The ADI organized the first training session for 15 Tanzanian officials in May.

17-Aug-2012 - The Uganda Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR) process culminated on August 14 with a workshop undertaken jointly by the Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU) and the African Development Bank’s Uganda Field Office (UGFO). The CPPR which is now an annual exercise brought over 50 participants and was chaired by Mr. Gabriel Negatu, Director, East Africa Regional Resource Centre (EARC), and Mr. Lawrence Kiiza, Director of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance.

13-Aug-2012 - The African Water Facility (AWF), in collaboration with New Partnership for Africa’s Development – Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF), hosted a meeting recently to launch the preparatory phase of the Songwe River Basin Development Programme in Kyela, Tanzania.
The event was attended by more than 150 people, including local and national government officials from both countries and representatives from the beneficiary communities.

The grant agreement was signed by AfDB Acting Operations Vice-President, Lobé Ndoumbe and African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) Learning and Knowledge head, Kobena Hanson.

The 27 July to 3 August workshop is holding in Lusaka, Zambia.
Metadata is essential for interpreting development-related data and making meaningful comparisons over time and between countries.
