08-Jun-2011 - AGO Report will be finalized and published by end 1st quarter of 2012
Promoting good governance as a key element in the fight against poverty in Africa was the main subject of the African Governance Outlook (AGO) presented by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on 7 June, in Lisbon, Portugal, the venue of the Group’s 2011 Annual Meetings.
07-Jun-2011 - The development of the Inga site, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), represents an opportunity for the entire planet, said the panelists at a seminar held on 7 June 2011, entitled "The Inga hydroelectric development project”, at the 2011 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The seminar, entitled Green Growth: an African Perspective, focused on two subjects: green growth and the Inga project.

07-Jun-2011 - Africa has enjoyed healthy growth over recent year, but to help maintain this growth, it needs to harness Science and Technology Innovations (STI). That means training people for STI, integrating into the global market, and preparing to compete hard in a world fueled by information and driven by knowledge, experts said at the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on 6 June, 2011.
07-Jun-2011 - If 2009 was the year the Bank played a countercyclical role by significantly increasing its assistance to regional member countries living under severe budgetary restraints, 2010 was the year of operational consolidation.
This is evident from the financial and operational analysis of the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) fiscal record for 2010 presented in Lisbon on 7 June in Lisbon, Portugal, at the Bank’s Annual Meetings.
07-Jun-2011 - The Bank continued its support throughout 2010 to help economic recovery in Africa’s fragile states through its Fragile States Facility (FSF).
The FSF helps these countries in three ways:
07-Jun-2011 - With the pressing issue of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, building a green economy is the best development option for Africa, said panelists at a seminar of the 2011 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The seminar, held on 7 June 2011, and entitled Green Growth: an African Perspective, focused on two subjects: green growth and the Inga project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
07-Jun-2011 - Credit approvals made by the African Development Bank Group during 2010 totalled UA4.1 billion (USD 6.31 billion) - a marked decline compared to the record level of UA8.6 billion for the previous year, but a sign of return to normality after the global financial crisis. That said, transactions in 2010 were still 16.1% higher than in 2008.
Funding from the three parts of the Group was as follows:
07-Jun-2011 - Representatives from Africa’s financial authorities have welcomed a planned new financial initiative from the African Development Bank (AfDB) which aims to boost inward financial investment in Africa and ease the continent’s infrastructure funding gap.
Plans for the African Domestic Bond Fund (ADBF) were presented at the AfDB’s Annual Meetings in Lisbon on 7 June 2011.
07-Jun-2011 - In September 2010, the Bank adopted a new mechanism for assessing its performance. It is called the “One Bank” Results Framework.
The “One Bank” system is part of the Bank’s continuing steady improvements in the use of Results Measurement Frameworks (RMFs) to assess its three financing windows – the African Development Bank, the African Development Fund and the Nigeria Trust Fund.
The “One Bank” RMF was founded on the principle that the planning, monitoring and assessment of results should be implemented as a continuum across all areas and...

06-Jun-2011 - To what extent does the African Development Bank (AfDB) see inclusive growth as an overarching policy objective? What changes, if any, would Management and the Boards want to see in the Bank’s strategy, in order to deal with inclusive growth?
Does the Bank have the right statistical instruments among others, to respond to the needs of its regional member countries in dealing with inclusive growth? No Bank expert is indifferent to the on-going debate on “Inclusive growth”.
06-Jun-2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with EMRC will organize an SME Forum at the margins of the Bank’s Annual Meetings to be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 6-7 June 2011.

The goal of the Forum will be to focus attention on the gap in capital and other forms of support for the Missing Middle in...
06-Jun-2011 - African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka left the urban sprawl of the Tunisian capital behind him last Thursday as he drove several hours into the Tunisian interior to visit the region of Kef.
Lying some 125 kilometers west of Tunis and unlike the relatively more prosperous coastal areas of the country like Tunis, Kef is one of the more disadvantaged regions in the interior.
