12-Apr-2011 - Written by Ernest Achonu The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have organized a two-day workshop in Tunis aimed at familiarizing AfDB staff with cost-effective ways of accessing enhanced GEF resources for environment and climate change related operations. Through presentations and discussions on strategies, projects and programmes, the GEF delegates and AfDB-GEF coordinator advised operational staff and task managers on how to improve accessibility to GEF environment funds.

AfDB-Ghana: President Atta-Mills Cuts Sod for Accra Road project

30-Mar-2011 - Ghana’s President John Atta-Mills on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 in Accra, cut the sod for the beginning of the Awoshie-Pokuase road and community development project. The project, which was approved by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group Board in 2009, involves constructing the 15 km road north-west of Accra. The civil works include secondary roads, and key community-upgrading infrastructure such as drainage, markets, water supply, schools, health centers and lorry parks.

29-Mar-2011 - A two-day AfDB/GIZ workshop on strategic environmental and social assessment ended on March 22, 2011 in Tunis with the presentation of an AfDB brochure on “Environmental and Social Procedures Basics for Public Sector Operations”. The brochure, produced by Compliance and Safeguards Division, provides a simplified step-by-step project cycle and an action/output guide for Bank staff in environment and social assessment operations.
