London, 17 June 2008 – The Congo Basin Forest Fund (CBFF), a multi-donor facility established to take action to protect the forests in the Congo Basin region, was launched in London on Tuesday by Prime Ministers Gordon Brown of Britain, Jens Stoltenberg of Norway and the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka.
17-Jun-2008 - FAO’s Assistant Representative in Uganda, Charles Owach, on June 13, 2008, held a meeting with officials of the Bank Group’s field office in Uganda to exchanges ideas on rising food prices in the country. Mr. Owach briefed officials of the field office on the outcomes of the food summit that took place at the FAO headquarters in Rome, noting that the summit adopted a declaration calling on the international community to increase assistance to developing countries, especially those severely affected by the current food crisis.
16-Jun-2008 - Tunis, 16 June 2008 – The Congo Basin Forest Fund, a multi-donor facility established to take action to protect the forests in the Congo Basin region, will be launched on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in London, UK, in the presence of the Fund’s Co-Chairs Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai, and former Canadian Prime Minister, Paul Martin; along with representatives of international development partners, civil society, private sector and high level officials of the British government.
16-Jun-2008 - In March 2007 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the British Government’s intention to contribute an initial £ 50 million (US$ 100 million) to a Congo Basin Forest Fund (CBF), as a part of a global Environmental Transformation Fund (ETF), to which a further £750 million (US$ 1.5 billion) is to be committed. The CBF allocation was made in response to representations from leading African figures involved in the conservation of the Congo Basin rainforest.
16-Jun-2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has been chosen to host the «Congo Basin Forest Fund» which currently has an initial contribution of US$ 100 million from the United Kingdom. Norway intends to contribute 50 million pounds to the Fund over the next three years. The Board of Directors of the Bank Group has endorsed the decision to host the fund up to 2018. The document will be submitted to the Board of Governors for approval.

Cape Town, 4 June 2008 – The Private Sector Department of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group organized an exclusive two-day Financing for Development round table from 3-4 June 2008 at the World Economic Forum on Africa held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The meeting brought together world-class private sector financial institutions that had a fruitful interaction with senior management of the AfDB Group and the World Economic Forum on Financing for Development Initiative.
06-Jun-2008 - Tunis, 6 June 2008 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would enable both parties enter into partnership in co-financing and information sharing.
The LAIP is a US$ 50 billion state-owned investment fund created in 2006 to foster investments in African countries.

15-May-2008 - The Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group ended on Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Maputo, Mozambique, after two days of exhaustive deliberations and approval of the Group’s annual report, as well as its operational programmes for 2008.
Major highlights of the 2008 Annual Meetings were the admission of Turkey as a non-regional member, the extension of the duration of the Nigeria Trust Fund for 10 years, and the establishment of a special Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Great Lakes Region.
