21-Apr-2008 - Port Louis, 21 April 2008 – The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, participated in the SADC International Conference on Poverty and Development held on Sunday, 20 April 2008, at the Swami Vivekananda International Conference Center in Mauritius, where he made a keynote address in support of efforts by member states of the community to reduce poverty and attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
18-Apr-2008 - A collaborative meeting between the Bank and "Biogas for Better Life, an African Initiative" is scheduled to hold in Tunis from 21–23 April 2008. Two members of the Initiative, Paul Hassing, Deputy Director in the Department of Water and Environment in the Dutch foreign affairs ministry at The Hague, and Chudi Ukpabi of Biogas for Better Life, will participate in the meeting.
17-Apr-2008 - The African Development Bank participated at the Design Meetings of the proposed Climate Investment Funds (CIF), hold at the World Bank Group (WBG) and Inter-American Development Bank headquarters in Washington, DC. The meetings took place from 10-15 April 2008.
17-Apr-2008 - The Bank’s official representative in Cote d’Ivoire, Sangbe Ngardinga, opened on Monday, in Abidjan, a regional training workshop for directors and staff involved in agriculture and rural development projects on the theme "Logical Results Based Framework".
Some 24 participants from Benin, Guinea, Mali, and Chad are participating in the workshop organized by the African Development Institute and conducted by Mr. Kone Mamadou.
17-Apr-2008 - The African Development Bank participated in the Global Agro-Industries Forum (GAIF) which took place in New Delhi (India) from the 8th to 11th of April.
16-Apr-2008 - The 2nd Meeting of the OECD-DAC Task Team on Rationalizing Aid Delivery/Fostering Complementarity took place in Paris on 4th April 2008, back-to-back with the meeting of the Working Party on Aid Effectiveness, from 2-3 April 2008. In attendance were: AfDB, Cambodia, EU Commission, OECD-DAC, Uganda, UNDP, USA, and the World Bank.
15-Apr-2008 - Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Gass, Minister of Finance and National Economy, called the African Development Bank to play a greater role in the reconstruction of Sudan as a a post-conflict country. Meeting on 14 April 2008 with the AfDB Executive Director for Sudan, Francis Tuan Karpeh, Dr. Al-Gass briefed his guest on the economic situation in Sudan, pointing out the peace achieved in the south, the State's efforts to resolve the conflict in Darfur and the signing of the East Peace Agreement.
10-Apr-2008 - A joint AfDB-World Bank mission is currently in the Central African Republic (CAR) conducting a Country Program Appraisal. The mission’s objective is to take stock of current projects and establish a portfolio quality improvement plan, assess results and lessons learnt from the 2007-2010 Joint AfDB-WB Interim Strategy Document (JSD) and initiate discussions on the government’s development priorities for the preparation of the new Joint AfDB-WB Strategy Document to be issued in 2009.
10-Apr-2008 - The African Development Bank organized a seminar on Tuesday 8 April 2008 in Bamako, Mali, where key stakeholders discussed the findings of the African Development Report 2007, on Natural Resources for Sustainable Development in Africa.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from relevant development organizations, civil society and ministries. Several journalists were also present.
10-Apr-2008 - African Development Bank Group experts together with Austria, Denmark, Germany (GTZ), Japan (JICA), Sweden and the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP-Africa)/World Bank, last week, participated in the 5th Joint Government/Donor Review of the country’s water and sanitation sector.
07-Apr-2008 - The African Development Bank took part in the 12th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) last week in Abuja, where member states discussed ways and means of revitalizing the Commission as an effective trans-border tool for peace, cooperation, stability and socio-economic development.
05-Apr-2008 - King Mohamed VI on Friday, 28 March, laid the foundation stone of the Ain Beni Mathar thermo-solar electricity plant at a ceremony attended by many people, including the AfDB’s Resident Representative in Morocco, Nono Matondo-Fundani.
The ceremony, held at the site of the project, 86 km to the south of Oujda in eastern Morocco, signified the official commencement of works on the two-phased combined and integrated power station with an installed capacity to generate 472 MW of electricity, including 20 MW from the solar component.
04-Apr-2008 - President Donald Kaberuka on Monday in Tunis opened a three-day workshop on "Challenges and Opportunities for Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa" with more than 50 participants including Auditors-General from 25 RMCs and experts from development partner institutions attending. The event is expected to enhance the Bank Group’s profile as one of the leading institutions in promoting transparency and accountability across the continent.

28-Mar-2008 - Tunis, 28 March 2008 – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved the Republic of Turkey’s application to join the Bank Group. The Board also approved the authorization of a special Bank capital increase required to actualize Turkey’s membership. The approval will be presented to the Bank Group’s Board of Governors at the institution’s Annual Meetings in Maputo, Mozambique from 14-15 May 2008. 27-Mar-2008 - TUNIS, March 27, 2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB), the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), and the World Bank on Thursday in Tunis called for an increase in funding and a renewed focus on agricultural water management in Africa, including irrigation, drainage and rainwater harvesting.
27-Mar-2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has made strong progress in aligning its lending to national priorities of its member states, Vice President for Sector Operations, Zeinab El-Bakri, said on Tuesday in Tunis.
Addressing a seminar on the Bank’s progress in the implementation of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, Vice President El-Bakri said the AfDB had also made important headway in working with other donors on member country studies.

19-Mar-2008 - Some twenty-four officials from Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles met in January to examine sex education policies in schools in the sub-region. The officials, who have many years of experience in the education and HIV/AIDS sectors, discussed best practices in communication in the region.
