03-Mar-2005 - A major item on the agenda of the 40th Annual Meetings of the Bank and the 31st Meetings of the African Development Fund (ADF) will be the election of the 8th President of the Bank Group for a five-year mandate. The elected President will replace Mr. Omar Kabbaj who has led the institution for ten years.
03-Mar-2005 - Le Vice-président pour les opérations Centre et Ouest du Groupe de la Banque africaine développement (Bad), M. Bisi Ogunjobi, et l’Ambassadeur de la République du Mali en Tunisie, ont signé à Tunis, l’accord de prêt pour financer le projet multinational de création de zones libérées de la mouche tsé-tsé et de la trypanosomiase (T & T) en Afrique de l’Est et de l’Ouest. Le Fad accorde au Mali un financement équivalent à 5,930 millions d’Unités de Compte (UC*) soit 9 millions de dollars EU.
02-Mar-2005 - Tunis, 1 March 2005 – The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, has announced the appointments of four new Vice Presidents and the Secretary General of the institution. The appointments came at the end of a competitive, global search process that involved some 500 candidates from around the world.
02-Mar-2005 - Le conseil d’administration du FAD a approuvé l’octroi d’un prêt de 15, 53 millions de dollars EU soit l’équivalent de 10 millions d’UC* et d’un don de 3,10 millions de $EU (2 millions d’UC) pour financer le projet de réhabilitation du secteur agricole (ASREP) Dans l’objectif d’accroître la production agricole et d’améliorer les revenus des agriculteurs, le projet comporte les trois volets suivants:
02-Mar-2005 - The Acting Vice President for the North, South and East operations of the ADB Group, Mrs. Zeinab El Bakri, and the Minister of National Development of Eritrea, Dr. Woldai Futur, signed today in Tunis a loan and grant agreement for the Support to Education Sector Development Program. The Bank Group’s contribution for the financing of this projects amounts to a loan of 13.6 million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to 20.8 million US dollars, and a grant of UA 5.03 million, equivalent to US$ 7.7 million.
02-Mar-2005 - The study will contribute to meeting drinking water and sanitation needs in a sustainable manner so as to improve the socio-economic and health conditions of the rural population with the implementation of the DWSS programme.
02-Mar-2005 - The Bank Group will, as a result, provide irrevocable debt relief of US$ 80 million in nominal terms to the country, with effect from December 2001. The debt relief will be provided by releasing Madagascar from up to 80 percent of its debt service obligations to the Bank Group each year, until the entire amount is delivered sometime in early 2013.
02-Mar-2005 - It seeks to extend electric power generation facilities and develop renewable forms of energy. The specific objectives are to contribute to ensuring steady supply of electricity to the country, diversifying energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will help raise the installed production capacity of the national electricity authority (ONE) from 200 to 250 MW and to inject about 1,590 GWh into the interconnected system, including 55 GWh from solar energy.
02-Mar-2005 - The Line of Credit to Zenith will be used for on lending to its corporate clients, including SMEs through long-term project finance. The AfDB resources will mainly be used to support enterprise expansion and rehabilitation projects, with strong foreign currency income streams. The LOC will cover asset based financing in the manufacturing, agribusiness, transportation, telecommunication, energy, and tourism sectors, amongst others.
