President Donald Kaberuka Visits Djibouti

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, paid an official visit to Djobouti from 3-4 February 2008. He was received in audience by Djibouti’s President, Omar Guelleh. He met with the country’s Prime Minister, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, as well as with the governor of the central bank.

During the visit, Mr. Kaberuka and the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Ali Farah Assoweh, signed two grant agreements on a sanitation project in the city of Djibouti to the tune of 6.5 million Units of Account (UA), equivalent to €6.97 million and a mobilization project for the supply of water for domestic and agricultural use in rural areas worth €1.93 million, to be financed by the African Water Facility (AWF).

In keeping with his policy of ensuring that Bank Group interventions achieve concrete results on the ground, president Kaberuka visited Bank-funded development projects, in particular, the fishing Port, the Balbala high school, and microfinance projects as well as the huge site of the future port of Doraleh.  "This visit," President Kaberuka said "has enabled me to see with my own eyes the enormous progress accomplished in the country in these past years, particularly in the areas of road and ports infrastructure."
