ADB President Donald Kaberuka rounded off his two-day official visit to Swaziland on Thursday after an audience with King Mswati III with whom he discussed topical issues and possible Bank support in efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in the country.
"What I have just witnessed at the Centre brings home the magnitude of the pandemic well beyond the statistics. The scale of human suffering calls for a coordinated and urgent response from the international community," the President said after a visit to the Voluntary Counseling and Treatment (VCT) Centre at the Mbabane Government Hospital. Mr. Kaberuka noted that "Swaziland’s classification as a middle income country should not exclude it from the global action to fight the spread of the disease."
He later received the diplomatic and donor communities and held a working session with government officials in the ministry of economic planning and development.
Mr. Kaberuka left Mbabane later in the day, winding up a tour of Southern Africa that also took him to South Africa and Mozambique.
