German Government unveils Marshall Plan with Africa at the AfDB

02-Mar-2017 - Africa is a continent of opportunity facing many challenges that the Plan can help resolve. Focus on entrepreneurship, private sector, renewable energy and green growth. The German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Müller, has unveiled his Government’s proposed “Marshall Plan” with Africa at the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), saying the Plan can help resolve some of the challenges facing Africa.

02-Mar-2017 - On February 28, 2017, Bank Group Director General (DG), Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office, Tonia Kandiero, and Zimbabwe’s Finance and Economic Development Minister, P.A. Chinamasa, signed a grant agreement on the Institutional support for State enterprise reform and delivery project (ISERDP) for a total amount of UA 3.0 million (approximately USD 4 million).

AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina meets with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir

02-Mar-2017 - On Monday, February 27, 2017 in Khartoum, African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Sudan, Field Marshal Omar al-Bashir, in the company of the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Badre Eldin Mahmoud Abbas, during an official visit to the country. Adesina was accompanied by the Executive Director, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari, who represents Sudan on the Bank’s Board; the AfDB Director General (East), Gabriel Negatu; and Sudan Country Manager for the Bank, Abdul Kamara.

Sudan: AfDB President visits Africa’s leading sugar factory and the world’s largest producer of white sugar

01-Mar-2017 - On February 28, 2017, the President of the African Development Bank visited the Kenana Sugar Company (KSC) in Sudan, which is by far Africa’s largest sugar-producing agro-industrial complex and world’s largest producer of white sugar. The company operates a cane farm of 105,000 acres of land and produces 400,000 metric tons of raw sugar annually, both for domestic consumption and for export. The company employs some 16,000 people, including 4,000 seasonal workers, and generates an annual revenue of US $400 million.

28-Feb-2017 - La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) et la Banque de l’Habitat (BH) ont signé, le 27 février 2017 à Tunis, l’accord de prêt préalable à l’octroi d’une ligne de crédit de 60 millions d’euros, destinée au financement des PME tunisiennes. Cette ligne de crédit devrait a à redynamiser les échanges économiques et commerciaux de la BH ; mais aussi soutenir la croissance de cet établissement bancaire sur le marché tunisien et renforcer sa présence en Afrique.

AfDB President pays a courtesy call on Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning

28-Feb-2017 - The three-day official visit of the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, to Sudan kicked off with a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance of Economic Planning, Badreldin Mahmoud Abass, on February 26, 2017. The hour-long meeting, which concluded with a press conference, touched on important issues that underscore the bilateral cooperation between the Bank and its country of birth, the Sudan, where it was born some 53 years ago.

AfDB President explores power supply projects in Sudan

28-Feb-2017 - On Tuesday, February 27, 2017, Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), visited Garri Power Station located in Khartoum and discussed the Government of Sudan’s planned power interconnection project that is to boost electricity supply in Sudan by 3,750 MW. SEFA commits close to US $1 million to energy access in The Gambia

23-Feb-2017 - The African Development Bank and the Government of Zimbabwe officially launched three projects worth US $26 million that were recently approved by the Bank’s Board of Directors. The three ventures are Alaska Karoi Transmission Reinforcement Project (US $18 million); the Youth and Women Empowerment Project (US $4 million) and the Institutional Support for State Enterprise Reform and Delivery Project (US $ 4 million).

AfDB undertakes mission to The Gambia for dialogue and portfolio review
