29-Jun-2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) in conjunction with UNFCCC and West African Development Bank (BOAD) convened the ECOWAS Green Investment Round Table on 21 June 2017 at AfDB Headquarters, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, aimed at catalyzing and launching a program of work initiatives that promote private sector finance and investment opportunities in the energy sector in West Africa region. Specifically, the meeting focused on catalyzing green investments to meet objectives of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

27-Jun-2017 - The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) awarded Liberia a grant in the amount of US$ 23.25 million to help transform the country’s renewable energy sector. The project aims at developing a 9.8 MW hydropower plant at Gbedin Falls on the Mano River in Nimba County and provide a low-cost, sustainable and reliable source of electricity to Liberia.
27-Jun-2017 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved the 2016 Annual report and 2017 Work plan and budget of the African Water Facility (AWF), with particular reference to the use of an amount up to €1.925 million for the administrative budget of AWF out of the Special Water Fund for 2017 activities.
27-Jun-2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced the appointment of Ms. Oley Lucretia Clara Dibba-Wadda as Director of Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development with effect from July 1, 2017.
A citizen of the Republic of The Gambia, Ms. Dibba-Wadda is a social development executive and strategic analyst with over 20 years of leadership and management experience. She is an expert in African and international policies on education, gender equality and youth development.
27-Jun-2017 - The President’s visit to Ghana will provide an opportunity to engage with the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, key cabinet members and other development partners on the Bank’s partnership with the country, and visit key projects financed by the Bank.
AfDB’s portfolio in Ghana as at June 2017 is composed of 22 operations with an overall commitment of UA 683.34 million (about US$ 950,319,370).

25-Jun-2017 - In a collaborative initiative, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have joined efforts to operationalize the ‘Desert to Power Initiative’ in eleven countries including Sudan. In his key note remarks at the opening session on 25 July 2017 in Khartoum, Abdul Kamara, Manager of AfDB’s Sudan Country Office said that the objective of the Initiative is to transform precarious situations in the desert part of Africa into development opportunities for local communities.

21-Jun-2017 - Facilitating travel in Senegal's most populous and productive area: that’s the objective of the Dakar Regional Express Train (TER) project. On Wednesday, 21 June 2017, the African Development Bank (AfDB) decided to support the project through a US $ 192.8 million (CFAF 120 billion) loan.
This 36 km long railway line will connect the heart of the capital with the new and growing city of Diamniadio. Some 113,000 passengers are expected to borrow it every day by 2019.
20-Jun-2017 - The African Development Bank’s Board of Directors has approved a US $1-million African Private Sector Assistance Fund (FAPA) grant to the Government of Mozambique to finance the Nacala Corridor Business Linkages Technical Assistance Project.
The project is in line with the Bank’s effort to promote inclusive private sector development and SME linkages with large investments. It also aims to promote corridor economic development through the integration of economic activities within infrastructure development along the Nacala corridor.
19-Jun-2017 - Le Fonds des Energies Durables pour l’Afrique (SEFA), logé à la Banque Africaine de Développement (BAD), a approuvé un don de 985,500 dollars EU pour améliorer la bancabilité et atteindre le bouclage financier d’un projet intégré, comprenant la construction de deux petites centrales hydroélectriques et des réseaux de transmission et de distribution. Ce projet assurera l’accès à l’électricité à dix mille foyers dans les villes de Butembo et Beni et aux alentours, dans la Province Nord Kivu en République Démocratique du Congo.
19-Jun-2017 - The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are leading renewed calls for global investment towards an electrified Africa.
They made the call at the 19th Africa Energy Forum concluded recently in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 7-9.
“We are all looking at the same pipelines throughout the continent. As a result, there exist obvious areas of cooperation,” said João Duarte Cunha, AfDB’s Chief Climate Finance Officer.

15-Jun-2017 - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a JPY 34.41 billion (about US$ 300 million) loan agreement with the African Development Bank under the Enhanced Private Sector Assistance (EPSA) initiative which is a component of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Africa.
The “Seventh Private Sector Assistance Loan” carries an interest rate of 0.35%, to be repaid in 40 years after a 10-year grace period. The loan is intended to promote economic growth and reduce poverty in Africa by supporting the private sector...
