Seychelles: AfDB Approves US$ 26 million for Mahe Water Project

03-Apr-2015 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has allocated  a loan and a grant amounting to US$ 25.995 million dollars to finance a water project in Mahe in the Seychelles. The Mahe Sustainable Water Augmentation Project (MSWAP) approved by the AfDB Board on Wednesday, 1 April 2015, in Abidjan, seeks to promote the country’s economic development by improving water supply capacity and resilience against climate change.

Progress made on the Africa Regional Integration Index presented to African Ministers

Tunisia: AfDB grants €49.4 million loan to enhance natural gas supply to disadvantaged regions

02-Apr-2015 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 in Abidjan, a €49.4-million loan to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Corporation, la Société tunisienne d’électricité et du gaz (STEG). The project for the development of natural gas transportation and distribution to the western part of the country is aimed at improving the supply of cheaper and less-polluting energy to the western region. This will help improve the living conditions of people in the area.

SEFA to support Solar Power Plant in Chad

27-Mar-2015 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has just approved a USD 780,000 preparation grant for the development of a first phase 40 MW of Starsol* Solar PV Plant near N’Djamena in Chad as the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) scheme to be connected to the national grid. Specifically, the SEFA grant will finance the costs related to technical assistance for the completion of the plant design and grid study, as well as advisors for legal and financial structuring of a bankable IPP.

Ebola doctors come home: AfDB joins ECOWAS and Government of Côte d’Ivoire in welcome ceremony

27-Mar-2015 - One year ago, on March 23, 2014, an epidemic of Ebola virus disease (EVD) was declared in West Africa. Beginning in Guinea, EVD quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone, taking the lives of over 10,000 people. Through a US $7.7-million grant provided by the African Development Bank, 115 foreign medical teams (FMTs) composed of doctors, nurses, and laboratory technicians from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal were deployed to the three affected countries to fight the disease.

Clarification – Ghana and the AfDB

25-Mar-2015 - Our attention has been drawn to a press report that Ghana is under sanctions with the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). We wish to state that Ghana is current on all its obligations with the AfDB.  Accordingly, Ghana is not on the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB. On 18 February 2015, due to an administrative oversight, Ghana was erroneously included in the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB. However, the error was detected that same day and a corrected list was immediately issued in replacement.

12-Mar-2015 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 approved an African Development Fund (ADF) Loan of US $123 million to Kenya for the Mombasa-Mariakani Highway upgrading project. The project road is a key import/export gateway and an important section of the Northern Corridor (NC), which links the port of Mombasa in Kenya with the land-linked eastern and central African countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
