AfDB finances construction of two hydropower plants in Burundi

23-Jun-2014 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved on 23 June 2014 in Tunis a US$22 million grant from its Fragile States Facility for the Jiji and Mulembwe Hydroelectric Plant Project in Burundi. Representing the largest investment in Burundi in the post-war period, the project is also one of the largest investments made in the country’s energy infrastructure since the 1980s.

The request was submitted to the AfDB as part of the final phase of ZEP-RE's capital base increase programme. The company intends to use this additional funding to support the next phase of its ambitious strategic business plan.

AfDB approves loan to improve quality of Manzini-Mbadlane highway

30-May-2014 - The Board of Executive Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a project for Swaziland for the amount of  UA 30 million (approximately 47 million dollars) to improve the standard and quality of the road linking Manzini to Mbadlane in the area of Manzini in Swaziland. The city of Manzini provides employment to more than 250,000 Swazis who will directly benefit from the project in terms of economic activities and travel cost and time.
