20-May-2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group holds it 2011 Annual Meetings in Lisbon, Portugal from 9-10 June 2011, with the participation of finance ministers, central bank governors and CEOs from the institution’s 77 member countries. The meetings, on the theme “Towards an Agenda for Inclusive Growth in Africa,” will review the Bank’s 2010 operations and its 2012 development funding portfolio, as well as challenges facing the African region in key areas such as climate change, infrastructure, private sector and governance.

South Sudan Seeks AfDB Membership

The territory’s finance and economic planning minister, David Deng Athorbei, urged the institution to expedite action on the membership process, building on the positive and ongoing role the Bank Group is playing in South Sudan.

AfDB, IFC, FMO Invest €66 Million in Dibamba Power Company in Cameroon

19-May-2011 - Tunis/Washington/The Hague, May 17, 2011 --- The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, the Interntional Finance Corporation (IFC)-a member of the World Bank Group), and the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), are investing €66 million in the Dibamba Power Development Company to help it build an 86-megawatt powerplant that will ensure reliable electricity supply and improve energy security in Cameroon. The Dibamba Power Development Company  is a subsidiary of the AES Corporation in which the government has 44 percent stake..  

AfDB Boards of Directors approve Mid-Term Review of the Group’s Medium-Term Strategy

19-May-2011 - The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), on 18 May 2011, approved the Mid-Term Review of the Bank’s Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) for 2008-2012. The Review’s aim is to evaluate progress against the objectives contained in the MTS, and to initiate consideration of a longer-term strategy beyond 2012.

AfDB supports voice and accountability in Tunisia

18-May-2011 - Tunis, 16 May 2011 - The governance technical committee of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved USD 310,000 to finance an Economic and Sector Work (ESW) Study on voice and accountability. The study is designed to improve social service delivery programs in Tunisia and the Maghreb. A vacuum in voice & accountability mechanisms has been one of the major triggers of the revolution.

AfDB Board Approves USD 64.8 Million for Uganda Agricultural Infrastructure Programme

05-May-2011 - The African Development Fund Board has approved a USD 64.8 million loan to Uganda to finance the country third Community Agricultural Infrastructure Improvement Programme (CAIIP-3). The loan, approved on 3 May in Tunis, is a follow-up on two similar programmes namely, CAIIP-1 and CAIIP-2, which resulted from a 2005 Bank review of Uganda’s agricultural and rural sectors.

AfDB and World Bank Jointly Pledge USD 1 billion to Support Tunisia

03-May-2011 - The African Development Bank and the World Bank pledged USD 1billion to support Tunisia after the presidents of both institutions met in Tunis on 3 May 2011.  In this joint action, each bank will provide USD 500 million in budget support to the country. The AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka, welcomed the visit of his World Bank counterpart, Robert Zoellick, to the Bank’s temporary relocation agency office in the Tunisian capital.   The joint operation is also a sign of stronger cooperation between the two multilateral banks.
