18-May-2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Japan (GOJ) have signed an agreement for a US $ 300 million facility under the joint initiative titled Enhanced Private Sector Assistance (EPSA) for Africa.
The loan, worth JPY 34.41 billion (equivalent to approximately USD 300 million) is intended to support private sector operations in Africa through the AfDB’s non-sovereign window.

11-May-2017 - More than 80 lawyers, international arbitration practitioners and government officials gathered in Abidjan last week in a lively exchange on the future of investment arbitration in Africa. Held from 20 -21 April, the West African International Arbitration Conference (WAIAC) provided a platform for both African legal firms and government institutions to promote their work, network with peers in the industry and deepen their understanding of emerging challenges in the field of international arbitration.
10-May-2017 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved a loan of US$ 226.5 million (ZAR 3 billion) to finance the Namibia Economic Governance and Competitiveness Support Programme (EGCSP).
The operation is the Bank’s maiden policy based operation in Namibia and the first of two programmatic series for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 fiscal years.
The EGCSP was well received by the Board who commended the quality of the operation and was satisfied with the Namibian government’s strong commitment to the implementation of reforms.
09-May-2017 - Through its Working Group on Education Management and Policy Support (ADEA-WGEMPS) and in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training in Swaziland, the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) launched the Smart School System (3S), a mobile application for capturing teacher and learner attendance, financed by the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland and ADEA.
08-May-2017 - The African Development Bank and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) launched on Sunday 7th May, 2017, the first session of the Egyptian-African Program for female African media specialists entitled “African Media Today and the Role of Women in Shaping its Future”. The Program’s objective to bring together female African journalists to learn about Egypt and EAPD activities through lectures, presentations, and site visits.
08-May-2017 - The Association for the Development of Education (ADEA) has called for the establishment of an African Education Fund to open a new sphere of education on the continent.
The Association also pledged to promote and implement appropriate and coherent policy responses and practices.
05-May-2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB)-managed Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has approved a US$ 965,000 grant to Oxygen Energy Private Limited to support the preparation of a bankable business case for the development of a 20MW off-grid solar PV rooftop project on buildings owned and managed by Old Mutual Property Group Zimbabwe countrywide.
