First two projects of Africa Climate Change Fund approved to support climate finance readiness in Africa

27-Aug-2015 - The newly established Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) has approved its first two projects in the past month. One will support Mali with preparatory funding to advance its low-carbon, climate resilient development agenda, and the second will strengthen data and information on climate change vulnerabilities and opportunities for 54 African countries.

Ethiopia first country to launch ClimDev-Africa Special Fund project

26-Aug-2015 - The ClimDev Africa Special Fund (CDSF) launched its first project in Ethiopia on August 3 to help the country cope with, and build resilience to, climate change by enhancing capacity in climate monitoring, data analysis, interpretation, forecasting and dissemination for use in national decision-making.

Meles Zenawi Foundation holds inaugural symposium on the African Democratic Developmental State

20-Aug-2015 - The Meles Zenawi Foundation in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Rwanda is holding its inaugural symposium on August 21, in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “The African Democratic Developmental State.” Inspired by the late Ethiopian Prime Minister’s commitment to the state’s prominent role in building robust accountable institutions and facilitating rapid sustainable development, the symposium aims to foster rigorous intellectual debate on issues related to development.

Fitch affirms African Development Bank at ‘AAA’; Outlook stable

12-Aug-2015 - Fitch Ratings has affirmed the African Development Bank (AfDB)’s Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR)'s at ‘AAA’ with a Stable Outlook. The Short-term IDR has been affirmed at 'F1+'. The ratings are underpinned by strong support from AfDB’s shareholders and by the Bank's intrinsic strengths, in particular its solid capitalisation, high liquidity and conservative risk management policies.

La Facilité africaine de l’eau apporte son soutien au développement socioéconomique de la plaine de la Ruzizi, promouvant l’intégration régionale

05-Aug-2015 - La Facilité africaine de l’eau (FAE) a annoncé récemment, avoir approuvé un don de 1,9 million d’euros à la Communauté économique des pays des grands lacs (CEPGL), laquelle réunit le Burundi, la République démocratique du Congo (RDC)  et le Rwanda. Ce afin de soutenir son programme de développement de la plaine de Ruzizi. Ce projet vise à stimuler l’agriculture dans la région, afin d’en faire une activité économique viable et générant des profits, qui pourra bénéficier à près d’un million d’habitants.

The Fund for Africa Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) to support AccessBank Liberia on financial inclusion

05-Aug-2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and AccessBank Liberia Ltd (ABL) have signed a technical assistance partnership agreement.  The partnership, which is expected to enhance ABL’s reach to Liberian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), is supported by a grant from the Fund for Africa Private Sector Assistance (FAPA).

04-Aug-2015 - A recent evaluation conducted by the Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) department of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has revealed that the Bank’s substantial investment in road infrastructure in Cameroon from 2004 to 2013 resulted in time savings and a 40-percent drop in transportation costs.

04-Aug-2015 - Fifty parliamentarians from 14 African countries met July 23 and 24, 2015 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for the inaugural Annual General Meeting of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE), established in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in March 2014. The parliamentarians from Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Somalia, Togo, Uganda and Zimbabwe; represented all five geopolitical regions of the continent.

AfDB president Donald Kaberuka pays farewell visit to Tunisia, reiterates the Bank's continued support to the country

01-Aug-2015 - The President of the African Development Bank, (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka whose mandate ends on 31 August 2015, paid a farewell visit to Tunisia’s President Béji Caïd Essebsi on Friday. He expressed the Bank’s gratitude to the Tunisian government and people for the hospitality the Bank received during its relocation to Tunis from 2003 to 2014.  "We are very grateful for what Tunisia has done for the African Development Bank," he said.

AfDB issues $20 million Infrastructure Bonds to Japan’s Life Insurance Company

AfDB supports Morocco’s economic competitiveness with US $114.5 million

28-Jul-2015 - Casablanca, 29 July 2015 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco on 28 July 2015 in Casablanca signed one loan and two grant agreements amounting to  $114.5 million (about 1.13 billion dirhams) to improve the country’s economic competitiveness. The signing ceremony was co-chaired by the economy and finance minister, Mohammed Boussaid and the President of the AfDB, Donald Kaberuka.

AfDB hosts first APNODE Annual General Meeting

24-Jul-2015 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) will host the first annual general meeting of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE) on July 23-24, 2015 at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan. The purpose of the meeting is to operationalise APNODE, a body whose mandate is to empower African members of parliament. The meeting will see APNODE adopt its constitution, elect an Executive Committee, and endorse a programme of action.

African Water Facility: Improved access to drinking water and sanitations services in Kinshasa

20-Jul-2015 - The African Water Facility (AWF) announced July 13, 2015, the approval of a €1.9-million grant in favour of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support the improvement of drinking water and sanitation services in Kinshasa, as well as for the expansion of water supply services towards Kinshasa-West. The project should benefit over 3.5 million people.  

Zambia - AfDB approves US$ 243 million loans for the rehabilitation of Chinsali-Nakonde Road

16-Jul-2015 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a US $193-million Bank loan and a US$ 50-million loan from Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF), to support the rehabilitation of the Chinsali-Nakonde road, a section of the North-South Corridor in Zambia, connecting Tanzania.

African Water Facility: Rural populations to enjoy increased access to water with the completion of the Saday dam in Djibouti

15-Jul-2015 - The African Water Facility (AWF) participated in a handover ceremony on June 18 to mark the completion of the Saday dam in Djibouti. The AWF’s involvement is part of a project to support the mobilization of water for domestic and agricultural use in rural areas.  The dam retains a settling reservoir and also keeps a great quantity of surface water for recharge. This is a new experience for Djibouti and a pilot that promises important socio-economic returns.

AfDB approves first Guarantee of Risk Management Product

13-Jul-2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved its first Partial Credit Guarantee of risk management product. The Financial Sector Development Department, led by Stefan Nalletamby, has embarked on a groundbreaking operation that will result in the institution’s first guarantee to cover the exchange risk on foreign borrowing.
