AfDB Launches Multinational Project on Rural Economy in Zambia

19-Apr-2013 - The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) in Zambia and the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI), with support from the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), successfully launched the African Development Bank-funded Multinational – Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC) on April 16, 2013.

AfDB provides USD 38 million for skills development and job creation in Rwanda

18-Apr-2013 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the government of Rwanda, on April 16, 2013 in Kigali, signed financing agreements amounting to UA 25.61 million (USD 38 million) for a skills, employability and entrepreneurship program.  The Bank’s support  comprises a grant of UA17.19 million (USD 25.3 million) and a loan of UA 8.42 million ( USD 12 623 264) and will finance Rwanda’s financial year 2012-2013 budget.

AfDB reinforces regional integration support with USD 232.5 million Tanzania-Kenya road financing

17-Apr-2013 - The African Development Bank has approved two loans totalling USD 232.5 million for the 157.5-kilometre road project from Arusha to Holili in Tanzania, and Taveta to Voi in Kenya, in an effort to reduce the cost of transport and enhance access to agricultural inputs, larger markets and social services within the East Africa Community. Kenya will receive USD 113.12 million of the two loans approved by the AfDB Board, while Tanzania will be awarded USD 120 million. The Bank facility constitutes 89.1 per cent of the total project cost.

African Water Facility Launches the Fostering Innovative Sanitation and Hygiene in Monrovia Project

11-Apr-2013 - The Fostering Innovative Sanitation and Hygiene (FISH) in Monrovia Project funded by the African Water Facility (AWF) was launched on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the presence of over 40 people including representatives of beneficiaries and development partners. The Facility offers a €1.2-million grant to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to support a project aimed at increasing access to sustainable and affordable sanitation and hygiene services to over 800,000 urban slum-dwellers in Monrovia, Liberia.
