Board Approves ICT Strategy, MENA Transition Fund and Projects in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and East Africa

06-Dec-2012 - The Executive Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on Wednesday approved the institution’s Information Technology Strategy 2013-2015 and the Bank Group’s Participation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Transition Fund. At their regular weekly meeting in Tunis, the Board also approved over US $107 million (UA 69.95 million) in loans and grants to finance projects in Zimbabwe, Nacala Corridor in Mozambique, and the integration of payments systems in East Africa. 05-Dec-2012 - Over 750,000 people from three Darfur states will have improved access to water supply and sanitation through a €3.3 million African Water Facility (AWF) grant. The project was recently launched during two separate ceremonies held on November 25 in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, and on November 29 in El Fasher, North Darfur State capital.

AfDB Approves US $103 Million Project to Support Higher Education, Science and Technology in Uganda

05-Dec-2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank, on November 21, approved the Uganda Support to Higher Education, Science and Technology Project, a key Human Development operation that will contribute to the economic and social transformation of Uganda and the East African sub-region. In line with Uganda’s National Development Plan for 2011-2015, the project aims to turn the country into a regionally competitive industrial economy by 2025 by developing skills and investing in science and technology.

AfDB Invests $43.7 Million in Kenya’s Higher Education Sector

The Loan, approved on 14 November, will also help the university system to build capacity to deliver quality and relevant education.

29-Nov-2012 - The African Development Bank, represented by Vice-President Ndoumbe Lobé and the Tunisian Minister for Investment and International Cooperation, Riadh Bettaieb, signed a 387.6 million euro loan agreement for the financing of the Economic Recovery and Inclusive Development Support Program (PARDI) for Tunisia. The loan was approved by the AfDB Board of Directors at its October 28 meeting.

This policy supersedes the 1994 Bank Group Energy Sector Policy and the 1985 Framework for Public Utility Tariff Policy previously applied to Electric Power, Telecommunications, Water Supply and Sanitation operations.

23-Nov-2012 - On Tuesday 20th November 2012, the AfDB signed a US$ 0.26 million protocol agreement with Mamaoun Beheiry Centre for Economic and Social Studies and Research (MBC), a policy think-tank in Khartoum named after the first President of the Bank. By reaching the completion point, Guinea also benefits from additional debt cancellation under the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI).
