Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group Operations Vice President, Aly Abou-Sabba, noted that Africa was now in a position where it should be using its natural resources for accelerated wealth creation to bring about socio-economic transformation.

Regional Directors, senior representatives and a multidisciplinary group of technical experts from the HHA partner agencies used the opportunity to discuss how to further strengthen their support to countries in providing quality and affordable healthcare to African populations, particularly the under-served.

Africa’s 15 franc zone countries joined France to celebrate 40 years of their financial and monetary cooperation, an initiative spearheaded by France in 1972.
05-Oct-2012 - Mr. Ebrima Faal, Regional Director at the Southern Africa Resource Center (SARC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB), signed on behalf of the AfDB the agreements for a loan of ZAR 65 million from the AfDB to Trustco Finance (part of the Namibia based “Trustco” group) to support its student lending program in Namibia. The signing ceremony took place in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. Also taking part in the ceremony were DEG and Proparco who signed the agreements for loans to Trustco Finance of ZAR 50 million each.

20-Sep-2012 - The Board of the African Development Fund approved on Thursday, September 20, US $348 million in funding for a US $1.26-billion electricity highway project between Kenya and Ethiopia.
Due for commissioning in November 2017, the project involves the construction of a 1,068-kilometre high-voltage direct current 500 kV transmission line between the two countries. It also includes putting up of associated converter stations at Wolayta-Sodo (Ethiopia) and Suswa (Kenya), with a power transfer capacity of up to 2,000 MW.
18-Sep-2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved on 6 September 2012 a USD 7 million equity investment in the Pan African Housing Fund (PAHF), a private equity fund targeting the lower-middle and middle-middle class residential housing market in Africa. This contribution will allow PAHF to help grow the capacity of local developers to deliver housing development projects that address the severe shortage of housing and corresponding infrastructure required to keep pace with Africa’s fast-paced urbanization.

11-Sep-2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on September 6, in Tunis approved a loan of UA 30 million, equivalent to 24 billion CFA francs, to the Republic of Benin as funding to support the country’s economic and financial reforms. The funding amount will be deducted from the resources of the African Development Fund (ADF), the Bank’s concessional window.
The program will contribute to institutional development and knowledge accumulation in the area of public finance reforms and provide support for private sector development in the country.
29-Aug-2012 - The African Development Bank Group, UNICEF and the Government of Madagascar signed a US $1-million grant agreement to fund rehabilitation of social infrastructure in the country following the devastating cyclones Giovanna and Irina, which hit the country in February. The signing took place on August 23 in Brickaville, about 250 km east of Antananarivo.
27-Aug-2012 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), a joint initiative of the Danish government and the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB), approved on August 17 its first grant of USD 825,000 to finance the concept phase of the Green Tech Financial Facility – a vehicle for investments in private-sector driven green technology projects – including market scoping and positioning studies, fund conceptualization and fund manager selection.
