27-Aug-2012 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), a joint initiative of the Danish government and the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB), approved on August 17 its first grant of USD 825,000 to finance the concept phase of the Green Tech Financial Facility – a vehicle for investments in private-sector driven green technology projects – including market scoping and positioning studies, fund conceptualization and fund manager selection.
22-Aug-2012 - The President of the African Development Bank Group, Donald Kaberuka, has expressed his sadness over the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
In his condolence message to the government of Ethiopia, President Kaberuka said: “Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was a visionary and transformational leader of his country and a voice for Africa in many international fora. He had great ambitions for his country and leaves behind an unrivaled record of social and economic accomplishments.”

24-Jul-2012 - The African Development Bank Group has made project approvals of approximately USD 3.45 billion, or Units of Account (UA) 2.27 billion, during the year 2012 so far.
In total, 52 projects were approved up to 18 July 2012.
The African Development Bank part of the Group made approvals totalling some UA 1.055 billion, or about USD 1.6 billion. while the African Development Fund (ADF), the Group’s concessional or ‘soft loan’ arm was the source of finance for UA 943.6 million or USD 1.43 billion worth of project approvals.

The project consists of two run-of-river hydroelectric power plants, a 70 MW plant in the Ngounie Province and a 52MW plant in north Gabon.

The first issue of the programme, which is a 10-year, 12.5 billion Ugandan shilling bond is open for subscription through July 20, 2012. The coupon to be re-priced at two year intervals will be pegged at 85 percent of the yield on Uganda's two-year government bond benchmark.

The regional unemployment rate among the 15 to 24 year-old age group is on average 23%, which is three to four times higher than that of adults. 07-Jul-2012 - The president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, was received in audience on Tuesday, 3 July by Tunisia’s Prime Minister and head of government, Hamadi Jebali at government house (Kasbah) in Tunis. The visit was within the context of the continual dialogue between the AfDB and Tunisian authorities at the highest level. President Kaberuka met on January 17 with the interim President, Moncef Marzouki.
Discussions between the two leaders during Tuesday’s meeting focused on an assessment of the situation in Tunisia.
